She raised her brows. “What?”
“Come with me.” I realized how abrupt the request must have been. Also, how strange I must have looked. Mud on my face, my hair sweaty, and me looking ruffled from serious game play that actually wiped me out. But as far as I was concerned, I didn’t want to think about football or anything that wasn’t her until the next game.
Just like last night, I stretched my hand out to her, showing how serious I was. There were several pairs of eyes on us. People looking on in keen curiosity. Through all of them, I think I felt the weight of Gage’s glare on me the most. Probably because it wasn’t filled with the usual angst and don’t-fuck-with-me tension.
I spared a second to glance at him but returned my focus to Vanessa.
When she took my hand, obsession filled me again.
We said nothing more to each other.
We just left.
Chapter 15
Cole
* * *
We drove backto the hotel in silence.
Except for the occasional glance she cast my way, we both stared ahead the whole journey.
The silence was there, but the chemistry mingling with the insane attraction was overwhelming. I observed the silence just to feel that.
I took her hand again when she got out of the car and led her to my room.
As I locked the door behind us, it was like we just stepped back into the reality we’d created last night.
Like we’d created a world of our own in this room.
Just like last night, I watched her walk into the room and stop at the center near the white Persian rug.
I loved what she wore today. A simple peach camisole top that looked striking against her skin and the dark mass of hair.
Her mini skirt hugged her hips, and the little ballerina pumps on her feet made her look like a doll.
She turned and looked at me, lips pressed together.
I set my bag down and my jacket next to it, then I made my way to her and ran my finger over the smooth skin of her cheek. Flawless skin of silk scattered my nerves.
As I watched the soft rose color flush of her cheeks, I had to wonder what on earth she’d done to me.
“I like here,” I said to her. They were the first words I’d spoken in the half an hour it took for us to get here.
“My cheek?” She tried to bite back a smile.
“Yes, your cheek. And here.” I ran my finger over the elegant line of her neck.
“Cole, you brought me here to tell me that?” She smiled.
I leaned in close. “I brought you here to tell you that your cheek and neck and the rest of your body are staying with me again tonight.”
“Really? That sounds like a picking apart game,” she said playfully.
I pressed my face against hers. “Oh no, no, no, Vanessa. No more games today.”
“What about my mind?” She brushed her nose over mine.
