Home…
Now which home will I be going to?
Last night I slept in my office and went to the place I’ve grown accustomed to calling my old house to grab a change of clothes for the day.
Tonight, I don’t have the luxury of being in my office or the house.
I’m in a bar looking like I’m on the prowl for an easy woman, and worse of all I’m in Mort’s Den, the best place to get the easiest lays.
I didn’t come here for that. I ended up here because it was close to work.
And now I can’t quite remember how long I’ve been in here.
A warm hand rests on my shoulder and I look up to see Monica.
At first I don’t recognize her because not only am I drunk, but her usual platinum hair is now jet black, and her tits look bigger like she’s had more work done on them.
I’ve never met a woman who loves going under the knife as much as this one.A nip here, a tuck here, and a boost here almost every week.
She smiles at me like the siren she is and the man I used to be would have fallen into bed with her just from that.
“Hello Lieutenant, all alone tonight?” she chants in a sing-song voice.
“Just having a drink then I’ll be off.”
“What’s the rush? We haven’t seen each other in a while, why don’t we reacquaint?I missed you. Not sure how I went all these months without seeing you.”
“I’m sure you managed.”
“How do you know? You’re a hard man to get over Logan Savage.I wasn’t sure if I should. You still with that woman?”
Good question.
Am I still with Quinn?
We expire in two and a half weeks. But we expired days ago when it was clear we were over.Again.
I look at Monica, so eager to be with me.She’s the woman who floats around town hooking up with men who have deep pockets. My pockets aren’t as deep as some of the guys I’ve seen her with and even when I get my million they still won’t be that deep.Yet, she was with me for a long time.
She wanted me because I’m me.
She’s probably who I’d end up with if I never knew Quin Cambray.
It would be so easy to answer that question and go with her to whereever she wants and fuck to forget.
But I’m Logan Savage. Always faithful, like the marines motto Sempler Fidelis.
That’s one thing that won’t leave me when it comes to Quinn Cambray.
I stand and her hand drops to her side.
For a moment she thinks I might be taking her up on that offer to reacquaint but the smile on her face recedes when I step back.
“You deserve better. When you find it, make sure he can put you first,” I say and I can tell I’ve struck a nerve when something comes into her eyes I can’t quite describe.
I won’t stay to find out what that something is either because I’m pretty sure it involves wanting me and being disappointed that we never worked out.
I could never give her what she needs though because she’s not Quinn.
