“Were you working late?” I ask.

He chuckles. “Yeah. I tend to do that a lot. It’s not healthy, but it gets the job done.I listen out sometimes for emergencies, so when yours popped, of course, I was worried.Especially since… well, we pulled the guys who were watching your place last month.I feel bad for that now.”

“Don’t.”

“Well, I do because they would have been able to see how that fire started or put it out before it got so out of control.”

“I’ve been thinking about how it could have started.Ethan, there’s nothing in that studio that would cause a fire.”

He considers this, but I can see he was already contemplating that the fire could have been done on purpose.

“Let’s wait for the guys to do their report.I don’t want you worrying about extra shit.”

“Okay. Thanks for sitting here with me.”

“No worries. I was hoping Logan would come back by now.I sent him a few messages.”

“We had an argument.”

“I guessed that. He’ll come around eventually, Quinn.Logan can be a hard head at times.”

“He had reason to be.”

“Maybe so. I just wish he’d been here today, or rather last night.”

“Me too.”

He reaches over the table and covers my hands with his.“Try not to worry.”

“I’m trying. I was going to look for him.”

"How about you let me do that?I think you need to go back to bed and get some rest.I’ll get the fire report later and we can deal with that then.”

“Are you sure?”

“Of course. Go get some rest, Quinn.” He stands and sets his shoulders back.“I’ll call when I find him. But call me if you need me to come back.”

“Thanks so much.”

He taps my shoulder and makes his way out.

I’m exhausted, so it might be a good idea to get some sleep and deal with everything later when I’ve rested.Especially since I now have no dance studio to teach in later.I quickly fire off a message to Bree asking her if she can contact all the students’ parents and let them know what happened.I’ll have to figure out something for the remaining time we have for the summer school.

It’s too early for Bree to be awake, so I don’t expect her to call back.

I get some water and make my way upstairs, but there’s a sound coming from my room.

The door is ajar and I hear… talking.

It’s only when I get to my opened door that I stop short and my soul screams when I see Riley sitting at my computer. On the screen is the recording of him and Dad having their secret meeting.

Instantly, the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end and my knees lock as the cold hand of fear roots me to the spot.

“Thought your cop friend would never leave,” Riley drones, turning to face me.

I back away into a hard wall with arms that circle around me so tight I can’t breathe.Looking up, I meet the leering gaze of another one of his lackeys.

My gaze snaps back to Riley as he stands.
