“Well, you didn’t have to come all the way out here to tell me that.”
Always and ever the asshole. “Okay… well I thought it would be easier, but next time I’ll make an appointment for a phone call.” I decide to swallow my embarrassment and continue to the purpose of my visit.“As I’m here, I wanted to see what you thought about going to the lake house.Just to check out what we’re up against.Of course that’s providing you accept your side of the offer.”
Surely he will. He might have his own business but nobody would turn away what I’d definitely call an easy million.
“I have accepted. I just haven't spoken to Mr. Mulligan yet.Have you?”
“No. I was going to wait until we’d spoken.”
“Tomorrow at ten.”
“Tomorrow at ten?” I’m not following what he means.
“I’ll meet you at the house at ten tomorrow morning.Do you remember the way?” There's that sarcasm again.
“I remember the way just fine thank you.You know just because I’ve been absent for years, doesn’t give you the right to be a complete dick toward me.You have no idea what my life was like, so don’t ask me shit like that.”
To my surprise, the corners of his lips twitch into what I think could pass for a smile. It however disappears before it fully takes seat.
I don’t get the chance to hear whatever comes back he might have had for me because someone clears their throat behind me.When I turn to see Monica,I know I won’t get to hear what he might have said.
“I’m so sorry to interrupt,” she says in a sugary voice and I remember Bree's joke about Blanche Dubois. And again with the daggers. Her ice blue eyes find me and rake over me from head to toe.Once again I become the shit she’s trying to avoid stepping in, signaling it’s time to leave.
“I was just heading out,” I reply.
“Oh. Well don’t leave on my accord.Especially if you were talking business. It just didn’t sound that way to me.”
Wow, this woman surely is fighting for that girlfriend title. She gives me a haughty stare and looks down her nose.
“Regardless of what might have been said, I think the contents of the conversation was between Mr. Savage andmyself. Not anybody else.”
I’ve had enough experience dealing with country club bitches who thought I didn’t fit into the socialite life to deal with this woman.
I’m not going to have her look at me like she’s better than me and speak to me as sucheither.
It’s clear from the scowl on her face that she didn’t like what Isaid.Too bad, I don’t give a shit. The same thing I said to Logan applies to her too.
I switch my gaze from her to Logan who’s watching me withfascination.
“I’ll see you in the morning,” I tell him and don’t wait for him to answer before I walk out mimicking what he did the other day in Mr. Mulligan’soffice.
One million dollars, Quinn.
One million dollars and the life I wanted in New York.
That’s what I have to keep in the forefront of mymind.
That is allthat matters.
Everything else is just obstacles I have to overcome.Just like thepast.
Logan
“Wow, she’s fiery,” Monica sneers, unimpressed by Quinn, and clearly jealous.
I'm not thinking about that though.
I'm fixated on the bad start my plan just made to think of my Quinn situation as business.
