Quinn looks like a weight has been lifted from her shoulders."Thank you. That means a lot to me.You'll never know how much I blamed myself."
“I know. No more though. What we need to do is try to move forwards. The past has taken enough from us already. You can shape the way from here however you want.If that’s New York, then that’s New York.Until then, how about we focus on the other problems.” I want to talk about New York some more.I don’t want her to go, and I know she means to leave this town behind with everyone in it.
Not that she won’t keep in touch, it’s more the case of starting over.
“Logan, New York is freedom for me.I think I’ll find what I’m looking for there.”
“Baby, if you believe that then you will.”
I purposely called her baby that time.
“Thank you. It means a lot that you believe in me.I want to teach and eventually have my own dance school. That’s where my heart lies.”
“I know and that’s where you should be.In the meantime how about you tell me why this ex-husband of yours thinks he should have people following you.”
“He wants me back.”
“Well, that’s not happening. I’ll have one of my guys stand watch when I’m not here and if you see anybody suspicious again when you’re out I’ll get Ethan involved.”
“You’d do that for me?”
“Quinn, please, don’t ask me shit like that.Is there anything else I need to know about him?”
She holds my gaze for a second too long, making me think there’s more she’s not saying.
“There’s nothing more to worry about now,” she answers in that classical Quinn manner that tells me they're actually is more we need to worry about. She either doesn’t want to tell me, or can’t.
Now’s not the time to dance around shit.
“Quinn, I appreciate you might be doing things the way you think is best, but if this guy is bothering you it’s serious and now’s the time to tell me everything.”
The nervousness that washes over her face is a dead giveaway I’m right.
“There’s stuff I can’t talk about.I can’t. I …really can’t. But it’s not relevant to him having me followed. That’s different. It’s to scare me into going back to him.”
We stare at each other and I guess this might be something I have to leave alone.
“Alright… do you want to go back to him?Just so we’re clear.”
“No, I absolutely don’t want to do that.”
“Okay. Then I’ll set things up so that we get to him if he’s following you around.” That’s as far as I think I’ll get with her.Now onto the other matter. “What about your real mom. What are you going to do about her?”
She thinks for a moment then presses her lips together.“I want to find her Logan. I just don’t know where to start.I remember meeting her.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. I saw her a few times. It was in her letters to Lilly too.Her talking about seeing me on several occasions.I think that takes that whole thing out of the equation of wondering if she wants to know me.I think she does. So I want to know her too.”
“Then I’ll help you find her, put my P.I skills to good use.”
“Oh my God, thank you so much.I don’t know how to thank you.”
“For now you can eat.”
She smiles back at me with gratitude brimming in her eyes.“Thanks, Logan.”
I dip my head and do my best to focus.
