She stared up at the huge Vaxxlian male. His size made her nervous, yes, a little, but he made her feel safe and treasured. They’d known one another for about two days, but when she imagined a future that didn’t include him, her chest became tight, and grief threatened to swallow her whole.

“I will stay on Earth with you, little sarr’ahh,” Warrin said.“If you wish to remain on your home planet, I will stay with you, be your mate, build a life with you, and protect you.”

“I want to mate with you, Warrin.”The second she said it, she felt lighter and filled with hope. The doubts that sometimes whispered she was moving too fast with the alien warrior remained blessedly silent.“But I don’t want to stay on Earth.I want to live on New Vaxx. With you.”

His eyes widened further, and a look of pure joy spread over his features. She returned his smile. He released her hands and clutched her face, then leaned down to press his lips to hers.Kissing each other while standing up was a bit difficult, however, given his great height, and he had to bend at the waist and angle his body away from her.She tried to reach for him, but she only managed to touch one of his arms.

He emitted a playful growl as he broke the kiss. With another growl, he swept her up into his arms and resumed kissing her, holding her close as his tongue glided against hers.It didn’t take long for the vibrations of his tongue to start up, and each quick pulse quivered through her, sending heated waves of sensation straight to her clit.

Not breaking the kiss, he carried her into the corridor. He stood outside the bridge for a moment, deepening the kiss, and it suddenly occurred to her that she’d announced her desire to mate with Warrin while the general was watching.

A low buzzing filled the corridor, and when she peeked open her eyes, she noticed the lights flashing in the corridor had shifted from blue to green.Warrin drew back from their kiss and gazed at her with such tender affection, her remaining doubts, small though they were, finally melted away. She was making the right choice.

He turned to a narrow console built into the wall. She couldn’t decipher the alien symbols scrolling across its surface, but when Warrin exhaled a long breath and his shoulders relaxed, she guessed the news was good.

“The general has granted theRennshapassage through the blockade.”

Before she could reply, he carried her back onto the bridge and sank into the pilot’s seat while holding her.The main viewscreen was blank—no sign of the general.

With one hand, Warrin tapped a few buttons, swiped across several of the screens, and issued a verbal command in his native tongue.A moment later, he rose to his feet and nuzzled his nose to Elora’s.

“I’ve set a course for the Eshunna Passage,” he murmured.

Excitement swept through her.The newly discovered wormhole made travel between Earth and New Vaxx astonishingly quick—what once took three months now took less than a day.

They were leaving Earth.By this time tomorrow, she would be on New Vaxx with Warrin—her sweet, protective, and handsome Vaxxlian warrior. Her mate. Her heart raced, and warmth pulsed low in her core.

Warrin carried her back into the corridor, moving with purposeful need.Seconds later, they reached his quarters, and he brought her inside. The door zipped shut behind them, sealing them in and adding a breathless sense of finality to the moment.

Alone with her Vaxxlian mate aboard theRennsha, and bound for the Eshunna Passage, there would be no more interruptions.

Warrin set her gently beside the bed, then stepped back to look at her.The affection in his gaze unraveled her defenses. When he looked at her like that, she felt completely laid bare—every secret, every private thought, suddenly his to see.

“You are so beautiful, little sarr’ahh,” he said in a deep, rumbling tone.“Your beauty is not only of the flesh—it’s also in your spirit. It shines so brightly that sometimes, when I look at you, I can hardly breathe.”

Elora’s lips parted, but no words came.Heat blossomed in her chest, spreading outward until her whole body felt alive, all her nerve endings tingling under the influence of Warrin’s compliment. No one had ever spoken to her that way—with utter reverence. The intensity of his glowing green eyes thrilled her, and sparks of tingling warmth continued spreading through her body.

Her eyes burned.“Thank you, Warrin. That is the sweetest compliment anyone’s ever given me.”

He stepped forward and cupped the side of her face.“It is the truth—the truth I feel in my heart every time I’m near you.”

“You take my breath away too, Warrin,” she said.“The first time I saw you, I became choked up and…”

“And slick between your thighs,” he said with a cheeky grin.“I could smell it—the sweet pungency of your arousal. You wanted me at first sight.”

“Well, I won’t deny it.”She lifted her chin.“Yes, I wanted you at first sight.I’d never seen a male so handsome, and your eyes—something about your eyes drew me in.There’s a saying on Earth—the eyes are the windows to the soul—and I think it applies perfectly to you. When I stare into your eyes, I see the goodness in you—and the strength. It makes me feel safe with you, and it makes me never want to leave your side.”

As though to prove her point, his eyes suddenly sparkled. He drew her closer, his hands gliding up and down her back. The hard length encased in his pants pressed against her stomach, sending jolts of warmth through her.

“Little sarr’ahh,” he said, his tone formal but tender.“I give you my soul, my body, and my heart.”

The vows. Her pulse skittered. The time to exchange Vaxxlian mating vows had arrived. She cleared her throat.

“Warrin,” she said softly.“I give you my soul, my body, and my heart.”What sweet vows. Was there more? She supposed she was about to find out.

“Upon this mating, I am yours and you are mine,” he said, his voice becoming strained with emotion. He meant every word. She could sense it in the earnestness of his voice, but also in the warmth that continually flickered in his eyes.

“Upon this mating, I am yours and you are mine,” she repeated. No going back. This was forever, and she was no longer afraid.
