“Daniel, they call you Pitbull.”

He laughed softly. “Has nothing to do with my prowess in bed, I assure you. What about you? Are you okay?”

She giggled.

“Still mad at me?”

“Sorry. When you left it was like you’d tossed me aside because I was begging you to…”

“Anke, you really should give your body a little more power.” Pitbull rolled over to drag his fingertips along her stomach. .”You’re a very sexy woman who wields a lot off strength with just a swish of your hips.”

Anke blushed. “I’ll make you a deal.”

“Oh? I like deals.”

She grinned and smacked his arm. “I’ll use the power of my hips only on you.”

A smile spread his lips and filled his eyes. “Out of all the deals I’ve ever made, I like this one most of all. I tell you what. Let’s go to the bedroom and we can—um—seal this deal.”

Anke laughed but moaned as he slid his palm down her body to sink his middle finger into her.

Pitbull didn’t want to leave Anke’s bed. All he wanted after they made love was to bask in the afterglow. Everything about Anke did him in—everything about her pulled him in so many wonderful ways that left him throbbing. He couldn’t remember feeling so much for another woman. But, when Mouth and Miracle showed up for security and company detail, Pitbull knew the moment this was all over, he’d lose her. Any thoughts he might have had of trying to become more to her than just a fling, died.

Not too long later, Zero’s arrival solidify to Pitbull that his time with Anke was almost over. Though a little gutted, Pitbull spoke to them, detailing the plan. But this was different—his mind wasn’t truly in it.

On their way to his truck, he figured it was the best time to pull his shit together. Pitbull knew if he kept thinking of Anke’s mouth around the head of his hardened arousal, someone wouldn’t be going back home after the mission.

They drove in silence to the bookstore. From time to time he could tell Zero was staring at him with questioning eyes but he pretended he didn’t know. The store looked desolate in the darkness. But in one window, close to the back, a lone light flickered through the corners of what seemed to be blinds. Pitbull stared at it, wondering what could be happening so late.

“How do you want to play this?” Zero asked.

“Very, very quietly. Right now we just want to gather intel. The less they know we’re here the better.”

“Remember, Tex couldn't find footage or even hang in through a phone. Which means they won't be able to see us coming. But, we should be careful nonetheless. Places like this usually have dogs.”

“True.”

Both men sighed in unison. After another few moments, Pitbull checked his weapon and holstered it. He unbuttoned his coat and pulled the truck a little further down the street and into a crowded parking lot for a nearby restaurant. It would draw less attention than parking it on the side of the road. The last thing they needed was some uniform getting curious.

They crossed the street and moved in silence toward the bookstore—or what they were all certain was a cover for something else. Nothing moved in the stillness. The car was on a section of road that didn’t see much traffic—another red flag as to why one would put a business there. From the inside, they could hear machines whirring, and the muffled hum of voices. Pitbull couldn’t make out what was being said, but they inched their way along the wall until they arrived at a back door. On the far side of it, sat an open window.

Pitbull checked to ensure he would not be seen, then snapped a few pictures of the interior with his phone. The men standing around a table were not familiar to him. The first was tall with dark hair while the other pudgy, with graying red hair. Zero moved to his other side and together they watched and listened.

“Any idea where she is?” the pudgy man asked. “I mean this is getting ridiculous. We’re losing money every damn second they’re out there.”

“Who is going to believe her?” the other wanted to know. “Some ex junkie who sold her body for money. Come on.”

“And you’re willing to take the chance, are you?”

“Not really. But what other options do we have? Anyway, tell me about the man you saw with her at the church.”

“Tall—big sucker.”

“Anything else?” The redhead asked.

“What else did you want me to see? I didn’t want to get squish like a bug.”
