“No, Hummingbird. I don’t want to walk away.” He framed her face. “Those children you yearn to have? I want to be their father. I want to be the man you come home to after the day wasn’t fair. I want to be the arms you run to when the world is unkind. I want to be your protector, your lover, your friend. Amelia Hemmingway, I love you. And it’s so strong in me, I wanted to kill him…”
“Dad?”
“Yes. I want to destroy everything and everyone who would make you sad.” He bowed his head to her shoulder.
She held him.
“Loving anyone this much scares me.” He admitted. “It scares me, but I look at you and the strength your smile gives me is everything.”
Amelia cradled his face and lifted his head. She stared into his eyes for a moment as if searching for something. “You’re mine, Liam Snyder. Do you know it now?”
He nodded.
“No—say it.”
Wraith smiled. “I’m yours—all of me.”
“I love you, Wraith.”
He laughed. “You’re calling me Wraith now? Why is that?”
“You didn’t look like a Wraith to me.” She smirked. “Now, you brought us some food. You should eat because you’ll need your strength.”
He quirked a brow making her laugh.
“I have plans for your body. And you’ll need to keep up.”
Wraith kissed her. “I bow to you orders, Captain.” He leaned further to kiss her neck. “Your wish is my command.”
Epilogue
Toronto was still cold. But it was nothing in comparison to Russia. Amelia decided she would not complain. She had a couple of nights before she could see Lisa and it took some doing to get Liam not to go with her. She first had to explain it all to Lisa and having Liam there would make it a little weird.
She spent the first night back digging through her papers for her birth certificate. Liam held her hand as she unfolded it to read what it said. Her father’s name wasn’t on it. The spot for father had been left blank.
“Who am I?” she asked.
Liam pulled her into his chest. “You are precisely who you were meant to be and where you were meant to be.”
“Liam, I know you love me.” Amelia eased back and stared into his eyes. “But I have no last name.”
“It won’t be for long.”
She quirked a brow.
“Hummingbird—I’m not going anywhere. And at some point, I’m going to want to put a ring on your finger. If you’ll have me, you will have a last name.”
Amelia found she loved the idea.
Amelia Snyder…
She hugged him tightly.
“How about we eat ice-cream out of the container?” Liam asked.
She giggled but nodded.
As they ate away at the cold desert, Amelia cleared her throat and looked over at Liam. “I called my office while you were in the shower.”
