“Angel, it’s Eris.” The voice was soft. “Do you know where Hawk is? We’ve been trying to find her—is she with you?”

Hawk groaned and cuddled closer.

I didn’t know if she wanted her friends to know what we’d done.

“She’s sleeping.” I told her. “Is something wrong?”

“Um—Ghoul, Hawk’s fine. Call off the hounds.” Eris called to her boyfriend. “And she’s okay?”

“Yeah, fine. I’ll wake her if you—”

“No, it’s fine.” Eris told me. “Ask her to call me when she wakes up.”

“Sure.”

I hung up and kissed Hawk’s head as I set my cell back on the bedside table. “Hawk?” I called softly, moving my lips down between her eyes. “Hawk?”

“Mmhmm?”

“Wake up.”

She groaned and opened one eyed. “Is it morning?”

“Not yet. Eris just called looking for you.” I told her. “You should call her back.”

“Tell her where I am. I’m going back to sleep.”

“I told her you were here and that you were sleeping.” I cleared my throat. “I didn’t know if you wanted them to know what we’ve done.”

She sat up, pulling the sheets to cover her chest. When she said nothing, I realized how much being her secret felt to me.

I didn’t like it.

Hawk rested to the pillows facing me and closed her eyes. I knew I couldn’t sleep after all that. For the rest of the night, I’d just toss and turn until something gave. I might as well get some work done—bills, roam the internet and talk to Nikau. When I glanced at the clock, it was well after appropriate hours to call anyone. Instead, I stuck my feet out of bed and headed for the door.

Tiberius was following me, his nails clipping after me to the door.

His nails needs clipping.

The next morning, since I was already awake, I went for my run with my dog, came back and rubbed him dry. I watched happily as he did the same thing he always did when returning from a run. I checked in on Hawk to find she was still asleep and figured it had been a while since she’d slept in.

I showered, made breakfast then sat with a cup of coffee, to make an appointment with Tiberius’ groomer.

“Why didn’t you wake me?” Hawk entered the room, pulling down her top. “And I have no pants to wear home.”

I smiled. “My sister uses the guest room regularly. She tends to leave clothes behind.”

“I couldn’t.”

“She wouldn’t mind.” I told her. “It’s either that or head home without bottoms.”

She opened her mouth to say something and probably thought better of it. Instead, Hawk left the room. I shook my head and cleared away my plates. When she returned, I set breakfast in front of other and smiled when she looked up.

“You can’t leap tall buildings in a single bound today without fuel.” I set coffee beside her plate. “Eat.”

She caught my arm as I walked away. “About last night…”

“Yeah?”
