I leaned closer to peer at Tex. “Dude! Why didn’t you lead with that?”

“It’s been a day.” Tex groaned. “Hang on a sec.”

I looked up at Angel who quirked a brow at me but then returned his eyes to the screen. Tex typed away at his keyboard then looked up.

“It’s an address.” Tex explained. “Check your screen.”

An aerial shot popped up. “It’s a warehouse location.”

“Big enough for vehicles.” Nikau leaned closer. “Tex, can you zoom in a bit to the spot right at the door?”

“Sure.”

“What are you looking at?” I asked.

“See these?” Nikau asked.

“Tracks.” I replied.

“So, it stands to reason Kingston may be here if—” Tex paused.

“He’s still alive.” I finished for him.

A strange silence wrapped itself around us. The truth, the thought Kingston could be dead was inside my head. It was one of the most rampant thoughts that swirled through my head whether I was awake or asleep. I pushed from the chair and walked into Angel’s kitchen to grab something to drink then returned to look at the screen.

“Okay—here’s what we’re going to do.” I rubbed my eyes then leaned back in my chair. “I’m going to head into Mexico and check out this address.”

“Whoa.” Angel spoke up. “Listen, we can’t just take off to Mexico. You could lose your badge for this.”

“Kingston could die.” I countered.

“I have a connection in Mexico.” Angel admitted. “Let me reach out to him and see if a few of his guys could make a run to the place. Once he reports back, you can make a decision.”

“You trust this guy?” I asked.

“With our lives.” Nikau was looking at Angel.

“Okay. But I’m heading back to Eris’ and pack a to-go bag.” I told him. “In the meantime, hold tight on coming down. We’re going to wait for the information. I’ll check in with Mia and see if she’s found anything else around the place.”

Angel rubbed my back again then excused himself to make the call. Tex logged off and I was left alone with Nikau.

“Don’t worry.” Nikau said. “If there’s anything to find at that address, Romeo will find it.”

I smiled. “Thanks.”

Angel returned almost instantly. He sat beside me. “Romeo is on his way now.” Angel announced. “He says it will take about forty-five minutes to get there. He’ll give us a call.”

“In the meantime.” Nikau winked at me. “Take Hawk home. I’m going to head home and prepare for the final day of the convention.”

I hugged him. “Thank you.”

The silence in the car threatened to drive me crazy. Anger at Kingston simmered beneath the surface. I thought we were closer than that. If he was going to do a side hustle, the least he could have done was tell me.

“Don’t be mad at him yet.” Angel’s voice cut through my thoughts.

“How can I not be angry at him?” I asked.

“We don’t know why Kingston did what he did.” I pointed out. “Maybe he saw it going sideways and wanted to protect you. I know how partners are with each other—they will lay down their lives for each other—good partners. He probably knew you would stick your neck out there.”
