My cheeks flushed.
“You don’t have to say it.” Romeo’s voice was soft, kind. “It’s written all over your face. The answer to your question is, I don’t know. Men tend to be different with their friends than they are with their lovers. What I do know is this—if you want a man who will never turn his back on his brothers, love his sister as if she can walk on water, and stands for what he believes in, then Angel’s your man.”
My man.
I hid a giggle behind sipping from my bear.
“So, you would let him date your sister?” I asked.
“Without question.” Romeo nodded. “If I had a sister. Look, some unsolicited advice?”
I nodded.
“Get to know Angel in your way and at your speed.” Romeo leaned forward and lower his voice. “See if he has in him the things you value in a lover. If he does, there’s your answer.”
“You’re a smart man, Romeo.” I laughed softly.
“You wanna wait until Angel comes back then say that in front of him?” Angel chuckled. “Seriously, it shouldn’t be complicated.”
“You’re a good man, Romeo Mason.”
“I am?”
“We don’t know each other but you’re helping me more than you even know.” I admitted. “Thank you.”
“Girl please.” He grinned. “You’re a good one, Sasha, Bracken. I can tell.”
She winked at him as the doorbell rang. Since the shower was going upstairs, I figured I should grab the food. I was halfway toward the door when it exploded inward, sending me flying backward down the hall. Romeo rushed to my side and Tiberius barked.
The echo of the sound caused my ears to ring.
“Hawk!” Romeo called.
I blinked and shook my head in time to see Tiberius had caught one of the intruders by the leg and was biting. The man screamed and aimed a gun toward the dog. Angel came out of nowhere, grabbing the yelling man by the back of the neck and bodied him into a nearby call.
Tiberius let up, giving his master control and turned for another person who weren’t supposed to be in the house.
I surged to my feet and sailed by him, catching the second man through the blown-out wall in the nuts with a knee, gripped him by the shoulders and shoved until we both stopped.
I looked up to see he was bleeding out the mouth and nose. Tilting my head, I noticed the key hook was now lodged in the base of his skull.
The next man in was met by Tiberius who sailed through the air and landed in his chest. He screamed and flailed. Luckily for him, when Tiberius’ teeth clamped down, they only caught his shirt as he tumbled back through the door. Romeo was already on another man, twisting to send an elbow into his nose before stepping away to slam a foot into his chest. He went flying outside again, landing on top of the other man that Tiberius was now busy knowing at his leg.
By the time we had the intruders under control, my ears were ringing like hell. The adrenaline wasn’t helping either and my head was beginning to hurt. I slipped to one knee.
“Romeo, get Ty.” Angel called while taking my shoulder. “Hawk? Hawk, sweetie, say something.”
“I don’t feel so good.” I mumbled.
He scooped me into his arms and carried me to the sofa.
“Did you hit your head?” He asked. “Did you lose consciousness? Are you dizzy?”
I smiled through the pain. “Angel?”
“Mmm?”
“Calm down.” I told him. “I didn’t lose consciousness. Just the ringing in the ears.”
