“That’s a beautiful pup.” Wraith admitted. “Amelia has been asking for a second dog. Not sure I’m ready for that.”

“Maybe not a Doberman.”

Wraith laughed as his wife came to look over his shoulder. He kissed her then handed her the phone so she could speak with me.

“I’ll go grab groceries.” Wraith told her. “Anything special you need, sweetie?”

“Don’t forget the peppers.” Amelia replied.

“Sure.”

She pouted at him for another kiss and the moment she had it, Amelia tapped Wraith on the ass as he walked away. Wraith growled at her and all Amelia did was giggle then turned to face me.

“Hey, Angel!” She greeted me. “How are you?”

“Not as good as you, obviously.” I grinned at her. “You’re glowing.”

“I should be.” Amelia stood and turned herself so I could see her stomach.

“No!” I cheered. “Don’t have that kid until I can get up there. I need him or her to meet his or her favorite uncle.”

“You’re going to have to fight a SEAL team and a GSG 9 team for that honour.” She laughed out loud. “But since I like you, may the odds be in your favour.”

I laughed. “Listen, about why I’m calling. Sasha Bracken?”

“Yes.” She sighed. “She’s a friend of mine. I met her a few years ago when my I went into Oklahoma on business. She’s going through some stuff now. I’m sorry I didn’t call—I tried but someone didn’t give me their new number.”

“Sorry, Blackbird.”

She leaned forward to stare at me. “Not you too.”

“Why does he call you that?”

Amelia laughed. “Long story. Look, take care of her for me, would you? Doctors don’t want me flying right now. And Wraith doesn’t want to leave my side.”

“Worried about the baby?”

She nodded. “And me. The first kid in this family is already driving me crazy.”

I chuckled.

“But seriously, even if you can’t help her, try and find someone who can. Besides, no matter how independent a woman gets, she wouldn’t say no to—”

“Oh no!” I said, shaking my head. “No trying to set me up.”

“Come on! When was the last time you had a good woman?” Amelia asked. “I mean, a good woman in very sense of the word?”

“Never?”

“That’s my point.” She sighed. “Blue balls can kill, you know?”

I facepalmed. When I looked up again, she was grinning quite proud of herself. “Blackbird…”

“Fine.” She exhaled dramatically with a roll of o her eyes. “Fine. I’m just trying to be a good friend and have your back. But seriously, try and help her. She means a lot to me.”

“You owe me.”

“Would a bottle of Crystal Head do?”
