I smirked. “You know me too well.”

“Ask for something else!” Wraith hollered from the background. “You’re way too easy.”

“He’s still there?” I asked.

“He stopped to let Doc into the backyard to do his business.” Amelia laughed. “And Wraith, you’re supposed to be on my side! I sex you up, remember?”

I chuckled. “Children, children, calm down or I’ll ground you both.”

“You’re no fun.” Amelia pouted. “Seriously, though. Let me know if there’s anything I can do.”

“I sure will.”

For a second, Wraith stuck his head in as well. “I’m here if you need a helping hand.”

“Thank you.”

“Babe, don’t forget to let Doc back in.” Wraith kissed Amelia’s head. “I’m heading out.”

“Okay, my love.” Amelia called to her husband.

“I’ll call in if anything.” I told her.

Amelia blew me a kiss before hanging up. I exhaled and climbed the stairs to the bedroom. Tiberius was asleep on his actual bed in the corner—actually, his butt was on the bed and his head was on the floor.

I could never get over him doing that. Whipping out my phone, I took a bunch of pictures of him and sent them to Nik.

I spent the rest of the day at Alpha. It was a camp for people wanting to join law enforcement or the military to see if they were cut out for the force. We put them through their paces, the same training they would get at basic—a little more stringent, if I was to be completely honest.

Tiberius found a mud puddle somewhere to roll around in, then when the recruits took off on their run, the Doberman went with them. No one seemed to mind.

While he was off being guard-dog, I got down in the mud with the Marine potentials.

With training over, a few of the Marine potentials asked if they could play around with Tiberius for a while. I agreed and they all grabbed toys from the back of my vehicle and took off with him. I laughed and shook my head.

By the time the day’s activities were over, I was exhausted, and my dog was caked in mud but happy. I sat around with Romeo.

“You need a ride home?” I asked.

“Sure.” Romeo sighed.

“Listen, you can stay at my place the days you have to work.” I told him. “Rather than driving back and forth all the time.”

“I can’t ask you to do that.”

“Romeo, you’re not asking.” I told him. “Besides, that mud monster loves having you around.”

I went over to Tiberius to wake him. “Come on, boy.”

Tiberius lifted his head, yawned and scampered to his feet. After we gathered our things and locked up, we led Tiberius outside and I let him into the truck onto the backseat beside Romeo’s bag. We settled in the front seats and I started the ignition.

“We should stop for some dinner,” I told him. “I mean, we could cook but by the time we get to my place, I don’t know if I’ll be down for that.”

“Agreed.”

We were silent for a bit. Tiberius stuck his head between the seats to get his head rubbed by Romeo.

The night had cooled down by the time we stopped to pick up some Jamaican food from a food truck I frequented.
