“Sasha Bracken.” I smiled at him. “Hawk.”
Tex was the kind of man that had a ready smile, but I could see a simmering storm in his eyes, even through the screen.
“Tex and I were talking, Hawk, and he’s agreed to help with your case if he can.” Eris told me.
“Thank you. Eris, do you have a clutch I can borrow?”
“Um…yeah. Ghoul bought me one last month—check my closet.”
I nodded, waved at Tex and hurried from the room. The clutch was beautiful, leather and designer. My friend wasn’t one for designer anything. I knew her, this was Ghoul’s idea.
I carried it back to my room and dropped in my badge, lipstick, cash and a stick of gum. It wasn’t big enough for my phone which irritated me. Instead, I stuck the cell in the side of my bra.
When I made it back down the stairs, Eris was still speaking with Tex but hung up as I arrived. I did a runway twirl for Eris who held up two thumbs. I laughed and was going to sit down with her again when the phone rang. Eris hurried over to the wall and pressed a button. I peered over her shoulder to peer at the screen. A BMW i8 was parked at the gate. It was matted black with almost neon blue rims.
Sexy.
“Is this your Angel?” Eris asked. “If the car looks anything like the man—me-ow!”
I blushed. “He’s notmyAngel.”
“Yes?” Eris said pressing a button.
“I’m Angel James.”
His voice through the speakers made me shiver.
“I’m here for Sasha.”
“I’ll let you in.” Eris spoke. “One second.”
Once she pressed the button to open the gates, my heart decided it would slam like the rumble of a locomotive. I swallowed the lump in my throat then pressed my back against the counter.
Eris pressed a shot glass into my hand, and I groaned. “I can’t drink this! He’s going to smell it on my breath.”
“There’s such a thing called mouthwash.” Eris told me. “It’ll calm you down some. Drink.”
Without a second prodding, I knocked it back then headed up the stairs to rinse my mouth and reapply some lipstick.
Eris had leant me a bright red that surprisingly looked really good on me. I straightened my clothes and descended the stairs to find Angel, his large body, decked in all black.
The only colour was the silver of his chain and dog tags around his neck.
He turned and smiled at me. “Well, Ms. Bracken. You clean up very well.”
“You really need to learn how to compliment a woman, Angel.” I retorted.
“Trust me, Sasha.” His eyes dropped down my body then lifted. “I’ve never had a complaint.”
I wanted to smack him. But the fire his eyes caused in my body made me weak.
“It was nice meeting you, Aisha.” Angel turned to smile at Eris. “We should go.”
When he turned his back, Eris did a pelvic thrust.
My cheeks burst into flames and I stumbled over my own legs. Angel caught me around the hips and I quickly stepped from his arms. He was hard against my back, his arms strong around my hips. I couldn’t have him on me.
After offering him a smile, I scampered out the door and down the steps. As I walked toward his car, I found myself swinging my hips a little more than I usually would. He walked behind me, his overwhelming presence making my knees week and my body feel a way it never had before. Then he reached around me to open the door and I didn’t feel the urge to punch him in the throat.
