“Come with me.”

We exited the house to lean on the jeep.

“How much time does Justice spend here?” Rei asked.

“This was to be his home after the wedding.” I replied. “We used to spend a lot of time here. After the breakup, he doesn’t really spend any time here. I just don’t remember the lamp.”

“Strange…” He mused.

“What are you thinking?”

“That the lamp wasn’t placed there by your brother or his fiancée.”

“How do you know that?”

“The rest of the house was decorated in a way that says Caribbean.” Rei pointed out. “That lamp matches nothing inside.”

“You’re telling me, someone added it? Why would anyone do that?”

“If they want to put a listening device in the house.” Rei looked around. “My question is, how did they think no one would realize they’d done that?”

“We don’t really use the house.” I admitted. “It’s been locked up for the better part of a year.”

“They probably didn’t know how often the place was used.” Rei thought out loud. “If it does have a device planted in it, someone could have brought that in and no one would know or notice when they do stop in.” Rei was already dialing on his phone.”

“Zero.” Tex replied almost immediately.

“I’m going to need you to use my location and see if there’s anything else broadcasting around me that shouldn’t be.” I told him.

“Let’s see here…” Tex coughed. “Have you called Beast?”

“Haven’t had a chance.” Rei replied. “I’m going to once I’m done here.”

“Do you have anyone to back you up until you get some familiar help?”

Rei nodded. “Yeah. The soldiers I’m training should be able to.”

“I don’t like it.” Tex muttered. “Holy shit! Brother, if that house was anymore wired, it could time travel.”

“What does that mean?” I asked.

“It means, there are listening devices all over the house.” Rei growled.

“Not just any devices.” Tex cut in. “They are state of the art.”

“That means, whatever your brother is into, is the big time.” Rei pressed his lips into a thin line before lifting the phone closer to his lips. “Listen, Tex. I’m going to need you to go deep on this.”

“I’ll hit you back.”

“Now what?” I asked Rei.

“We should go.” Rei replied, walking around the jeep to climb in. “We can’t ask his superior about his missions because they won’t tell us anything. We’re going to have to find things out on our own. I should talk to his guys and see what they know. I don’t want to activate my guys yet. Their mission here wouldn’t be sanctioned.”

“They would drop their lives to come here to help you look for a stranger?”

He turned the jeep back in the direction we’d come. “They’re cops, Hoshi. They help all who needs it. Right now, we have a lot of work to do and the clock is ticking.”
