“We’ll take care of you until we find Justice.” I told her. “But you cannot stay here.”

“Can’t leave. Justice said…” She sobbed again before wiping her eyes with the back of her hand. “I go to Bailey?”

“Do you know Bailey?” Patrick asked her.

“Not personal-like.” Fabienne replied. “Justice said, good who-mon.”

I smiled. “She is.” I glanced up at the others. “Patrick, bring the jeep around to the back of the building. The less she has to walk out in the open the better.”

Patrick nodded and ran out of the room. Dude and I exchanged looks as we made small talk with Fabienne. She seemed tired and ready for things to be over. I figured we could wait until we got her back to Bailey before asking her any of the hard questions. Hopefully, by then, Tex could get a hold of their contact in Haiti.

With some work, we got Fabienne out through the back. With Patrick driving, I sat beside her and Dude in the front. I didn’t want to crowd her. As we moved through the middle of St. Ann’s Bay, she seemed preoccupied with the world outside the vehicle. My guess was, Justice took her out of Haiti to hide her and she had yet to see any of the island.

At the house, Bailey ran outside to greet us. While Patrick, Dude and myself alighted from the Jeep, Fabienne didn’t exit.

“Who’s that?” Bailey asked.

“Fabienne.” I replied, taking her aside. “She’s what Morena’s goons have been looking for. I’m guessing she was in a bad situation. Your brother saw that and tried rescuing her. I’m also guessing she’s Morena’s old lady and he wants her back.”

“You’re not going to give her back, are you?” Bailey asked. “Justice risked his life to save her, we can’t—”

“Whoa!” I held up a hand. “You think I’m that big of an asshole?”

She had the audacity to look hurt.

“Of course, we’re not sending her back.” I told her, my voice hard. “Justice saw something was wrong and tried correcting it. Do you speak, Haitian Creole?”

“Yes.”

“Then after she gets something to eat, I’m going to need us to sit down and ask her some questions.” I told her. “She may have something to tell us about where Justice is.”

Without waiting for her to speak again, I turned and walked back toward the Jeep. Though she called after me, I didn’t stop. The thought she believed me that horrible that I’d let this man get his hands on Fabienne again hurt me more than I cared to admit.

Opening the door, I smiled at Fabienne. “Come inside. We’ll get you something to eat then we can talk, okay?”

She nodded, accepted my hand, and exited the vehicle. Fabienne nodded in greeting to Bailey but I didn’t even look at her. I was still angry and having a conversation with her in that moment wouldn’t do.

“I’ll gather some food for you guys.” Bailey walked by us in the foyer.

“I’m not hungry.” I told her.

When Fabienne was settled and looking around, I turned to see Eton had been hurt. I quirked a brow.

“I’m fine.” Eton spoke up.

“How did that happen?” I demanded.

“We went to Bailey’s place.” He replied. “People were in their trashing the joint and wiring it for sound.”

“Fuck.” I swore.

“I’m okay. It’s not that bad but Bailey freaked out.” He chuckled.

I exhaled.

Bailey brought Fabienne a plate of food and a drink. The two spoke amongst each other in Creole while I checked in with Tex. He explained his friend’s name was Saint Toussaint. He had earned the nickname Bòkò. Tex had also given him the location of where we were, and he’d be with us soon. When I checked in with Beast, he explained that someone needed to pick up Crash and Barbie.

I sent Patrick with Jasmine.
