I remained like that with her for a while, feeling the world age around me, wondering how I could get my hands-on Emmitt Shipp.
I knew he was responsible for all of this.
But why?
Could it be he wanted Nella back after all this time?
If he did, would Nella take him back?
I didn’t sleep at all that night. Nurses and doctors came in and out of the room, checking in on Nella. They checked her blood pressure each time. I watched carefully from the window. Each time someone knocked, my back went up.
We remained at the hospital all day—Jia stopped by with some more clothes for Nella and to take away the dirty ones.
Demon popped in to bring food a little while later.
By the time it began getting dark again, the doctors agreed to release her but only if she monitored her situation carefully.
She hadn’t shown any signs of a concussion yet, but they were still a little worried of the head injury.
The moment we were alone in the car, I knew she wouldn’t want to go home. We wound up at Emmitt Shipps’ place.
Looking at the sprawling mansion, I immediately knew what kind of man Emmitt Shipps was. He was the kind I despised—the kind with all the money in the world but still wanted more.
He was a little man using material things to shroud a big ego. He was the kind of man who believed if he threw enough money at something the problem would go away.
It didn’t take long for a sports car to pull up in front of the large gates.
Nella scrambled from the car and walked in front of it as the gates opened.
I followed but remained in the dark.
Watching—always watching.
“Where is he?” Nella demanded when Emmitt stepped from the car.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Emmitt told her smugly. “Who are you talking about?”
“My nephew. Where is he?”
“If you don’t know where he is, might I suggest calling the cops?”
“I don’t need the cops.” Nella told him. “When I’m finished with you, you’re going to wish I had.”
Emmitt stepped toward Nella and though my back went up, it seems Nella didn’t need my help.
She didn’t back down.
When he grabbed a handful of her hair and started tugging, I eased forward, reaching for the blade at my side.
But I didn’t have to worry.
Nella was stronger than I gave her credit for.
She stepped on his foot—hard. He released her but didn’t have time to focus on his foot because she quickly kneed him in the crotch. When he doubled over, she grabbed the back of his neck and brought her knee up while pushing his head down.
His face crashed into her knee and he shouted in pain.
“That’s just a warning!” She snapped down at him. “I’ll keep finding you Emmitt Shipps. And I’ll kick your fucking ass a different way every time until you tell me what I need to know. Until I have my nephew backsafely, there isn’t a fucking hole deep or dark enough for you to hide.”
