“Kid.” Mamba pleaded. “Something is on your mind. Why are you so cold to Nella?”

“Cold to her?”

“I can see it.”

I shrugged from his reach and stormed off down the hall with Mamba and Kid calling after me. Stopping, I shifted to look at him over a shoulder.

“Call me when my niece is here.” I told Demon.

“Where are you going?” My oldest brother asked. “This is your baby too. I need you right now.”

“I can’t.” I told him as my heart hurt.

Demon approached me and framed my cheeks. “What is happening?”

“My heart is broken.” I admitted loud enough for only his ears. “And it hurts. I can’t be here with her, not now.”

“Okay.” Demon nodded.

He released me and went to speak with Nella. After a minute or so, she picked up her purse and left. I pressed my eyes closed and fell against Demon’s chest. I knew I should be stronger in that moment. But I just didn’t have any strength left to pretend.

“You’ll be okay.” Demon wrapped his arms around me. “Now, I have to go to my girl. Mamba is going to sit with you, okay?”

I nodded. “Don’t worry about me. Focus on Chelsea.”

“How can I not worry about you?” Demon smiled at me. “You’re the kid Arrowood, remember?”

I had to laugh at that. “Yeah, I remember.”

With Demon gone, I fell into one of the chairs. The others flocked around me and all I could do was close my eyes and breathe.

We were updated—it seemed the baby was not interested on coming out.

Nella returned but stood to herself until Jia went over to talk to her. I sequestered myself to a corner on the floor, listening to music on my phone with Sean and Mamba by my side.

The baby wasn’t born until the morning around five in the morning. When I finally got the chance to hold her, I couldn’t stop the way my heart filled with love.

“She has more hair than I do.” I laughed softly.

Demon made a sound of agreement in his throat.

“She’s beautiful, Darius.” I admitted. “Thank God she looks like her mother.”

“Right?” Demon chuckled. “Otherwise, she’d be screwed.”

“Hello baby Grace Lucia Ronan Arrowood.” I kissed her forehead. “I’m uncle Ronan, and I’m your favourite.”

“You, Lucas and Sean are going to have to battle it out for that title.” Demon told me softly.

“I’ll win.” I smiled down into the face. “How can I love this little thing so much already?”

“Don’t question it, brother.” Demon patted my shoulder. “Just let it happen. Listen, Chelsea and I were talking and we’ve decided to ask Sean to be her Godfather. Mamba is cool with that, are you?”

I looked up at my brother. “I have the better title.”

Demon laughed.

“Do I get to hold my baby?” Chelsea teased from behind us.
