Kid
We spent most of the evening and night talking. The relationship we had with each other needed a better foundation. Ours was one built on lust and heated looks—we both agreed it needed more. And so, we began getting to know each other better. I knew her favorite colour, that she spoke some Spanish though her mother had tried killing the language in her. Both her and Calie learned as much as they could, secretly.
The next morning, I woke to the scent of bacon. Though I would rather wake up in her arms, the other side of the bed was empty.
I wandered down the stairs and leaned my shoulder against the doorframe. After folded my arms across my chest, I smiled. “What do I have to do so that I can wake up in your arms just once?”
Nella shifted on her feet to smile at me. “Tie me to your bed?”
“Tempt me.” I made my way across the space to hug her from behind. “Are you making grits?”
“Yeah.” Nella moaned. “Chelsea’s grandmother taught me before she died.”
“I see.” I kissed her neck before releasing her and searching out coffee.
Over breakfast, I watched her. Her hair was a bit longer than when everything started. I find I liked it that way but it seemed like an issue as she kept pushing it from her face. Getting up, I stood behind her chair, gathered her hair in my hands and braided the strands in one down the middle of her head.
When I was finished, she checked it out in her reflection on a piece of the silverware.
“Ronan Arrorwood!” She gushed. “Where did you learn to do that?”
“Demon used to have long hair,” I said as I took my seat again. “Never knew how to keep it out of his face.”
Nella laughed.
After breakfast, we went for a drive out into the center of the town. We shopped in little stores, buying little trinkets and postcards I wanted to mail back to Jeremy. Then wandered into the bakery. Though there was still a partially eaten cake at home along with cookies, Nella introduced me to the owner, Ramsay and we ordered milk with cupcakes.
As we sat by the window to look out over the road. I watched her as she ate, not worried about her weight. She didn’t complain—instead, she enjoyed her cupcake, even stealing a bite from mine. I tapped her arm with my spoon.
“Hey!” She exclaimed. “Selfish much?”
“I don’t give away free food.” I told her while tapping my lips while pouting. “Come on.”
Nella giggled and kissed me.
I waved at Ramsay and asked him to bring us another two cupcakes and servings of milk. This time we switched up the flavors of cupcakes.
By the time we made it back to the beach house, Nella was exhausted. It was probably because of the amount of sugar we’d had. She toppled to the sofa.
I grabbed a bottle of water from the kitchen, handed it to her and left her to make a few phone calls in the bedroom.
My brothers were excited to hear that Nella and I made up, especially Demon.
“I knew it!” Chelsea cheered in the background.
She must have startled little Gracie from her sleep because the baby began wailing.
“Babe, we just got her to sleep.” Demon groaned. “I have to go. Be on your best behaviour.”
“Really?” I asked. “You do want me to get laid again, right?”
Demon swore under his breath and hung up.
The next call, I dreaded.
“You’re my most famous stunt man, Kid.” Harry groaned. “Summers are the busiest time of the year!”
I sighed. “My body is exhausted, Harry.” I told him. “Plus, I need to spend time with my girl. And didn’t you say people are interested in me moving over to main roles?”
