She backed away from the curb but didn’t move further. Even when she was nothing but a memory in the distant, I wasn’t sure what I was feeling.

Did she confess she wanted me?

Was I supposed to read something into the speech she’d given me? Did Nella really not care? She was cold as she spewed the words at me. If she truly didn’t care, why then leave my party the way she had? Why be so nervous as she exited the office building?

At my place, I pulled the gift she’d left me out from where I had it stashed in my bedroom and sat on the floor, staring at it. Remembering there was an engraving, I opened the box, but I couldn’t get myself to remove the piece of jewelry.

No.

If Nella wanted me to wear it, or read what she wrote to me, she was going to have to read it to me, then put it on my wrist.

I opened the bedside drawer and placed the box in. For a moment I stared at it then closed the drawer and left the bedroom.

I sent an email to my agent taking a little time off. My body needed it to kind of recover from the last shoot—I was blown up, stabbed, shot and fell off a motorcycle flying from one moving train to the next. I wasn’t sure how much longer my body could take being a stuntman.

I loved the work, but it was getting harder and harder to heal from it.

After a quick shower, I set to work making dinner. In the middle of that, the front door opened, and Demon called out for me.

“In the kitchen!” I replied.

“Something smells good.” He said, walking in to hug me. “What you making me for dinner?”

“Steaks—you staying for dinner?”

He shook his head. “Chelsea would kill me. She says she’s making me something special.”

I laughed. “She’s eight months pregnant. No super freaky fun times.”

“They say sex is good for the baby.”

I quirked a brow. “Would you wanna get poked in the head repeatedly?”

“I’m pretty sure that’s not how it works.”

“That’s how it works in my head.” I muttered. “Then again, how would you know? The baby could come out with like an indented head or something.”

“Oh, Jesus, you’re incorrigible.” Demon laughed. “All I’m saying is my woman is sexy as hell—pregnant or not.”

“I’m happy for you.” I began placing vegetables on the counter grill. The sizzle always made me smile. “What are you doing here, anyway?”

“I need a reason to stop by now?”

“Of course not.” I frowned and stared at him. “Why are you being such an ass?”

“You know Nella likes you right?” Demon asked. “That’s the reason I’m here. Chelsea is worried about her and I’m worried about you.”

“If she likes me, I don’t need you or Chelsea telling me. I want Nella to.” Irritated at the conversation I was now having with my oldest brother. “Besides, I gave Nella the chance—she said there was nothing she wanted to tell me. According to her, she doesn’t care and she doesn’t have feelings for me.”

“Um…”

“I thought of how she couldn’t get out fast enough at my party.” I told Demon. “At first, I thought it was because she thought I was with Macy. But she said she had on feelings for me—she doesn’t care.”

“And now after the fight with Macy.”

“She said she doesn’t want me.” I frowned. “Weren’t you listening?”

Demon quirked a brow. “She’s shy. Maybe you heard wrong.”
