My brothers were in love with the idea of celebrating me and their women took the reigns and ran with the idea. Before I knew it, a catering company had been hired, special booze had been ordered and there was a stack of birthday presents building up in the back.
Chelsea shouldn’t even be running around like she had—she was very pregnant.
Demon didn’t seem worried since his fiancée would be with Jia.
When I stepped into the room, everyone cheered loudly. Nella merely sipped from her drink while staring daggers at Macy.
In that moment, I couldn’t take my eyes off Nella.
How is it even possible she looks even better than the last time I saw her?
Dressed in a beautiful fuchsia dress that matched her tanned skin perfectly, the hem of it fell mid-thigh on her. Her hair rested on her shoulders and framed her cute face in large curls. The makeup she wore was natural leaving her skin glowing healthily.
But my eyes stopped on the red of her lips.
How angry would she be if I messed it all up.
—in other words, I only had eyes for her.
Macy must have seen that for immediately she drew to my side and looped her arm with mine.
It wasn’t hard to see the air being sucked out of the room the moment Macy extended a hand to Demon and proudly announced herself as my girlfriend.
Demon and Mamba exchanged looks of confusion before Demon accepted the hand and shook once before releasing it.
Mamba was the one with no tact. He was the brother I couldn’t take anywhere because he wasn’t afraid to be ghetto as all hell. Mamba looked down at the hand as if it was covered in the plague then promptly ignored it.
In that moment I pried her fingers from my arm and met Demon’s questioning eyes.
Macy rubbed her thigh and inhaled deeply.
Macy stared at me—I couldn’t tell what she was thinking. I said nothing but kept my eyes levelled on Nella. Her cheeks flushed red as she forced a smile and cleared her throat.
Even if she never said the words to me, I knew having Macy there hurt her and I hated myself for it.
“I should call it a night.” Nella announced before I could figure something to say. “I promised Jeremy I’d be the one to drive him to school tomorrow. Happy birthday, Kid.”
“We haven’t even opened the presents yet,” Mamba said. “You said it yourself, you love presents.”
“It’s fine.” Nella handed her wine to Chelsea and turned on her heels. “Kid can tell me what he got another time. Besides, there will be pictures, right? I’m really tired.”
“Nella?” A very pregnant Chelsea called before waddling after her best friend.
“What was that all about?” Mamba asked.
“I’m not sure.” I told him.
“Really?” Demon asked. “You don’t know what that was about?”
I blinked.
“Damn, you’re clueless.” Demon groaned. “You know absolutely nothing about women and I’m not sure how that can be possible.”
Though I stared after Nella and Chelsea, Macy kept trying to get my attention which annoyed me. We weren’t dating—we were friends—barely. At least I thought we were. Macy and I had never had a conversation about taking our friendship to another level.
I paused for a moment to think about that concept and all I felt was rage.
I didn’t want anything but a friendship from her.
