I used a finger to drag over her bottom lip. “I regret nothing.”
Nella kissed me softly.
I sat up and scooted to the edge of the bed. I could feel her eyes following me around the bed.
On purpose, I bent over to pick up my clothes and she giggled.
When I looked at her, her cheeks were flushed red.
“Take a shower.” I told her while I dressed. “I’ll fix something to eat.”
“How about…” Nella climbed off the bed to stand in front of me and to trail a finger down my abs. “We take a shower together—to save the planet, you know?”
“Right.” I kissed her. “For the planet.”
The next morning, Nella made me breakfast in bed. I had enough time to drink my coffee, take spoonful of scrambled eggs before Sean arrived to pick me up for first watch.
I grabbed a kiss and a waffle as I hurried out the door with Sean who had a handful of grapes from the kitchen.
On the drive toward the location, I exhaled and rested my head to the headrest. There was something about Nella that made me positively ravenous.
I didn’t have time to really dwell because Demon and Mamba called through. With them on speaker phone, we were told that Malik would be nearby with the drone.
He’d also be our back-up should things started going south. That would give Demon and Mamba time to get to us.
In the meantime, Demon would be taking Chelsea for a schedule check-up and Mamba had a tattoo to do.
Sean found a place for us to settle in, ensuring that the car would be seen. As we waited, Sean cleared his throat.
“Can I ask you something?” He wanted to know.
“Yeah, man.” I told him. “What’s on your mind?”
“What do you know about Helen?” Sean asked.
“I don’t know any—you mean the nurse?” I shifted in my seat.
Sean nodded.
“Nothing much.” I thought about it. “She seems like good people. When Nel was in trouble, Helen stopped and helped her, keeps checking in on her. Nel likes her.”
Sean nodded and turned his gaze out the window to the space we were watching. People came in and out, a few of them stared at our car but no one approached.
“Why are you asking about Helen?” I wanted to know.
“No reason.” Sean replied.
“You think she’s cute.” I pointed out. “There’s no shame in liking a woman, Sean.”
“I know that.” He looked at me, his brows creased. “I know—but I can barely take care of myself.”
“That won’t be forever.” I told him. “You’re on the ground floor right now. When school finishes in a few weeks, you’ll be on your way up. And you make good money working for Demon and freelancing, don’t you?”
“Yes, but I’m not settled.”
“Sean, you served your country,” I said. “There’s honour in that. Any woman who’s worth it will understand that. It wasn’t like you sat around—wasting your life and—is that Emmitt’s car?”
Sean quickly grabbed the small binoculars from where it sat between the seats. He lifted it through his eyes as the car stopped and one of the men at the gate leaned in the widow.
