Finally, a couple of days later, Nella decided to face the world again.
While she went off with Jeremy to meet with the Calie’s lawyer to figure out the will and inheritance situation, I went to the gym with my brothers and Sean. Though we didn’t speak while working out, it was amazing having that brotherly energy around me. After an hour and a half, we grabbed bottles of water and sat on the floor in the corner of the boxing area.
“Shouldn’t you go home to Chelsea?” I asked.
“Trust me, she’s happy I’m out of her hair right now.” Demon laughed. “She told me last night I was suffocating her. You wouldn’t believe how protective I feel over her right now.”
I laughed. “It’s the daddy syndrome.”
“The daddy syndrome?” Mamba laughed. “I think you’re talking out your ass.”
“Wait until it’s your turn.” I chuckled. “When a man loves his woman and she’s carrying his child, there’s thisthingthat flips on inside him. He wants to make sure she has everything, that she’s in want of nothing.”
“I feel that for Jia now and she’s not pregnant.” Mamba pointed out.
“I get it.” Sean finally spoke up. “I think the fact that this woman is creating a life inside her, and that life is a part of you—I can definitely see it.”
We all nodded and slipped into silence until I’d finished the entire bottle of water.
“So, how’s Nella doing?” Mamba asked.
“She’s okay, I think.” I replied. “I mean, how would you feel to find out your mother is shady as hell?”
“I tell you one thing.” Demon muttered. “I’ve seen some fucked up shit in my life, but this? What’s your deal with Nella?”
“I don’t know.” I replied. “What I want from her is everything. I think over the last few months I’ve fallen for her and I can’t seem to help myself. But right now isn’t the time to bring that to her.”
“I agree.” Mamba told us. “Let her deal with this with his mother and her nephew. Be there for her and she’ll come to you when she’s ready.”
“Maybe.” I pushed to my feet to get another bottle of water. “She’s a good woman. But with her mother—she’s been through a lot.”
They all nodded.
“Just trust the process.” Sean’s voice cracked. “And I really should take my own advice.”
“What?” My brothers and I chorused.
“Helen.” Sean replied. “I’m almost finished school. Chelsea has offered me a job at her studio, and I can freelance on the side. I’ll have something to offer.”
We laughed.
“Shower first.” Mamba advised him.
Sean blushed, bumped fists with us and took off for the shower.
I hung around with my brothers for a while longer before Demon had to go home and Mamba had to repot to the studio.
When I arrived back at my place, Jeremy was sitting on the sofa with his laptop.
“Hey, Jeremy.” I greeted him. “Where’s Nella?”
“She had to run to her office to pick up her things.” Jeremy replied. “You would not believe how hard it was to convince her that as long as I stayed in and keep the door locked, that I’ll be fine.”
I laughed. “She’s worried. You just got kidnapped.”
“I get it. But I’m okay. I feel safe here.”
I offered him a smile. “Pick up her things? From her office?”
