“He’s going to be okay.” I told her.

By the end of the month, Jeremy was fully healed, physically. While he showed no frayed ends, mentally, Nella had insisted on Jeremy seeing a therapist.

Over the next little while, I felt Nella step back from me. My brothers thought it was all in my head until one day at The Bar when I touched her shoulder and she flinched and walked away.

“What just happened?” Sean asked, looking after her.

“Are you two fighting?” Mamba asked.

I shook my head. “I don’t know what that was about.”

I backed off, giving her space to get settled with Jeremy. Within that time, I spent more time, I took on more stunt work. I couldn’t sleep anyway and most of the rest of my free time was spent working at The Bar. After the place closed, I sat around to check on the books, ensured orders are put in and that everything was up-to-date.

By the time I got home in the wee hours of the morning, sometimes I didn’t even have the strength to shower. Most often than not, I would fall onto the sofa and that was where the sun would find me.

A few times I tried calling Nella.

Voicemail.

I stopped by her place, but it didn’t seem anyone was home. The car was always missing from the driveway.

Jeremy visited but I didn’t ask about her. I didn’t want to put this kid in the middle of whatever it was happening between Nella and I.

When a fielded a frantic call from my brother, Demon, I sighed.

“Calm down, Demon.” I exhaled. “What’s going on?”

“The baby is coming!” Demon told me. “I’m on my way but the traffic is—move! This is kind of an emergency!” Demon honked at whoever it was he was yelling at before returning to the call.

“You’re closer to the hospital than I am.” Demon told me. “Could you head over?”

“On it.” I told him.

Dropping everything, I ran from The Bar and sped all the way there.

Chelsea waved at me when she saw me, and I jogged over to her. Though she smiled, I could see the pain through it.

Her pregnant waddle was a little slower than it was, and I knew, it was almost time.

“How’d you get here?” I touched her stomach.

“Nella and Jia drove me in,” she said.

I flinched.

“What’s this?” Chelsea asked.

“Not now.” I told her. “This moment is all about you.”

“I’m having a baby, Kid.” She rolled her eyes. “Not sacrificing a virgin.”

“Huh?”

She groaned and rubbed her stomach.

I looked around. “Where’s Nella?’

“She went to park the car and Jia went to answer a phone call.”
