“He wants to kick your ass by the way,” I said remembering how frustrated Tex had been trying to track Frost. “Like seriously kick your ass.”
Frost chuckled. “He’d have to catch me first.”
She pushed the door opened and we entered then closed it behind us. We wandered through the first floor and found an office. She instantly slipped on her gloves and began searching.
“What are we looking for?” I asked.
“I’m not sure.” Frost picked up an empty picture frame. She turned it over in her hand then set it back on the bookshelf. “I guess we’ll know it when we see it.”
Unsure of what I was to be searching for, I began digging too. Eventually, I flopped into the overstuffed, leather chair. “If I was an asshole, where would I hide assholie things?”
Frost chuckled, the second show of mirth I’d gotten from her. I held onto it as I dragged a gloved finger over the top of a laptop. Curious, I opened it and once the screen lit up, I realized it needed a password.
“What do you think the password is?” I asked.
“No clue.” Frost replied after a pause. “We can’t take it with us because then they’re going to notice it missing. I don’t want anyone knowing we’ve been here.”
I pushed some air out my mouth causing my lips to flutter as I tried guessing his password.
Striker.
Wrong.
SEALs.
Wrong.
Asshole.
Wrong.
I stopped trying. It was safe to say any further attempts would hamper our efforts rather than help it. I wasn’t sure how many times I could try before the system locked me out.
“We should get Tex.” I suggested.
Frost tossed me her phone and I scrolled through to find John Keegan. I called him and pressed the phone to my ear.
“Frost—tell me what you need.” Tex answered.
“Um…it’s Jesse.” I whispered. “We need you to get into a computer.”
“Okay—give me two shakes of a…”
Before he was finished, I noticed the computer had logged in and icons were moving around on the screen.
“I swear to God, you terrify me.” I mumbled.
Tex laughed softly.
“You guys are at Mountain Head?” Tex asked. “Listen, I’ll clone the computer and log out. You guys find what you need and get the hell out, ‘kay?”
“Don’t have to tell me twice.” I mumbled.
Leaving the laptop for Tex to work, I continued helping Frost search.
We ventured from one room to another, one floor to another. We finally found one person in the house watching television in the living room.
The basement was used for storage. We couldn’t do much searching, but Frost found a Yankee jacket. I turned my attention to what looked to be a bookshelf with old novels on it.
