She sighed. “What do you think they will do with him when we bring him back?”

“Find his family.” I told her.

“He won’t be safe with them…” She patted the bed beside her.

Gripping the dresser, I pushed forward then crawled into the bed with her. She relaxed against me and exhaled loudly.

“I have the money—” Jager told me.

“You want to take him?” I asked. “Raising a child is hard work. It takes more than money.”

“Forget I said anything.” She sighed.

But as long as we laid there waiting for the signal from Hermes, Jager didn’t go back to sleep.

Arin “Jager” Chioma

I huggedTianna then reached over to do the same for Hermes. He picked me up, hugged me tightly and spun me around. Laughing, I smacked his shoulder.

“You cut that out.” I teased.

He set me on my feet and patted my shoulder, a wide grin on his face. Maksim “Hermes” Demidov wasn’t technically a part of the Brotherhood Protectors. He was close to the boys, but he was a billionaire out of Canada that went through some stuff. Though he wasn’t a part of them, he’d shown the backbone and loyalty it took to be a Protector.

“Technically, it’s not his fault.” Tianna laughed while shaking Mack’s hand. “You disappeared.”

I hung my head. “You know I get that way when I’m prepping for a fight.”

“Aren’t you missing one right now?” Hermes asked, dropping his body into a nearby chair.

“Yeah—Montana took care of that.” I told them.

“You’re missing a fight?” Cage asked from the door.

“Cage.” We all turned to face him. “It’s okay.”

“It’s my fault.” Cage sighed. “I’m sorry.”

Smiling, I rose and walked over to him. I looked into his eyes and held his shoulders. “This isn’t your fault. And it’s not like I need the money from that fight. I’ll get the other one. Promise me, you won’t blame yourself.”

“If anyone is to be blamed are the people after you.” Tianna told him lovingly.

“Hi.” Cage waved shyly.

“I’m Tianna,” she said, walking over to shake his hand. “That big lug is Maksim—they call him Hermes.”

“The trickster god?” Cage lit up.

“He’s a trickster alright.” Tianna laughed.

Hermes smirked proudly. “It’s nice to meet you Cage. We’re going to get you out of here. Don’t worry.”

Cage nodded.

He left us then to go to the bathroom and I moved to sit down beside Mack. Exhaling loudly, I closed my eyes and tried to steal a moment to gather myself.

“When was the last time you had a good night’s sleep?” Tianna wanted to know.

“I don’t think I’ve had one of those for years.” I opened my eyes. “I will once we get back.”
