We turned to let Sadie know we were leaving.
“Don’t let Cage stay up all night reading.” I told Sadie. “He’ll do that if you let him.”
She giggled and I knew she would be the fun aunt. Kissing her cheek, I allowed Mack to take my hand and lead me from the house. When he opened the door for me, I gripped the handle in the vehicle and pulled myself up. He closed the door and jogged around to climb in beside me.
When we were on the road, he glanced over at me.
“You look beautiful.” He told me. “I love your hair.”
Shyly, I rubbed the back of my neck. “Is it bad that all I wanted to do was take you upstairs? I never thought I’d have a thing for a man in a suit until I walked into that room.”
Mack laughed. “Bad girl.”
I giggled. “Where are we going?”
“I’m taking you dancing.” Mack replied.
“Dancing?” I asked. “Well, this I have to see.”
Dinner was amazing—candlelit under the stars with a magnificent view of the mountains. The temperature had dropped leaving the air with the perfect coolness. Sitting caused the dress to rise up my thighs. Mack touched me whenever he could—caressing my thigh, kissing my bare shoulder, holding my hands.
He made me feel sexy, and I enjoyed every second of it.
When soft music began flowing through unseen speakers hidden among the decorations, I couldn’t decline Mack when he held his hand out to me.
I allowed him to pull me gently into his arms. Without hesitation, I rested my head on his chest and allowed him to rock me gently to the music. Closing my eyes, I held him tightly, needing this moment to last forever.
In Mack Salazaar’s arms I was in a place where I was untouchable. It was a safe space where nothing that happened outside of him could touch me.
We skipped dessert and wandered along a flower lined path belonging to the restaurant. In an opening, there was a swing facing the mountains. Mack sat and patted the spot beside him.
Smiling and playing with the jade pendant of my necklace, I sat beside him at the far end of the swing.
“Aww, baby.” He drawled. “Closer.”
I shimmied a little closer.
He moaned.
“Closer.” He dropped his voice an octave lower.
I scooted a bit more.
“Don’t make me come get you.” He bit into his bottom lip.
Giggling, I drew my body flushed against his side and he wrapped his arm around me. Once we were comfortable, he used his legs to swing us gently back and forth as we looked up at the sky.
“How much do you think this dress cost?” I asked after a while.
“Why?”
“It’s Sadie’s.” I told him. “Sadie McClain’s. LiketheSadie McClain.”
“I’m pretty sure she’s not worried about it.” Mack told me. “You know this crew better than I am and they take care of each other.”
“I know but—”
He tipped my lips up and kissed me. “Then stop worrying. Take the love people want to shower you with. We just want to love you.”
