He looked at me thoughtfully for a moment.
“Maybe.” He admitted. “But I’ve always had thisthinginside me. I went to school, and I passed what I needed but school wasnever my thing. I didn’t think there would ever be a time when I’d dress in a suit and go into an office. It was either this or military and I don’t do well with being ordered around.”
I laughed softly. “You prefer giving the others.”
“Kind of.” Trucker shrugged. “There are times when I’d gladly take orders.”
“Really? When’s that?”
Trucker leaned forward and rested his chin on my shoulder.
I trembled.
“In your bed.” Trucker replied.
I moaned.
“You’re not a submissive, Trucker.” I reminded him. “With a body like yours? I don’t see it.”
“It has nothing to do with being submissive.” He sat back and met my gaze. “It’s a matter of trusting my woman. It’s a matter of giving her the control she needs to get off.”
“I don’t like imagining you with other women.”
“Then don’t.” Trucker hovered his mouth over mine. “Imagine me only with you.”
“Mayson.”
“I never lied to you, Sprite.” He growled. “Why are you surprised by the things I say?”
Silence.
“Mayson.” I whispered.
“Say my name again.”
“Mayson.”
He kissed me then, deeper and deeper until I couldn’t breathe.
Eventually, he had to go back to work, but Trucker did what he usually did when I stopped by. He carried what was left in the basket and walked me back to my car. This time, he held my hand, and I couldn’t help pretending he was mine.
Once he stashed the basket in the backseat, he stopped to kiss me and opened my door for me.
“I’ll see you tonight?” He asked.
“You know where to find me.” I grinned, bravely stealing another kiss.
Before I slipped behind the wheel, Trucker kissed my head and closed my door for me. As usual, he didn’t head back to work until I was on my way.
But there was no turning back now.
He’d kissed me in front of others, in front of Esther.
People knew now.
They knew I was interested in Trucker and that he shared at least some of those feelings.
But no matter how much I thought about it all, and no matter how afraid I was of being hurt again, I couldn’t come up with a good enough reason not to try being with Trucker.
