“Ishould probably go help my brother’s close,” Kellen murmurs, smiling down at me as the music cuts out and a disgruntled murmur repeats around the room. It’s time for all the patrons to go home.

And I’m a patron…

“Oh. Uh. Yeah, of course.” I step back and touch my forehead lightly, realizing that this surprising turn of events is now over, and far too soon, if you ask me. But beggars can’t be choosers, so I put the biggest smile on my face that I can muster and look up into Kellen’s moss-green eyes. “Thank you so much for dinner, the drinks, the dancing and…well, just thanks. I had a lot of fun.”

His dark brows bunch together as he reaches out to take my hand. “Oh no, sweetheart. Don’t think you’re goin’ anywhere just yet. I just have a few things I need to do and then I’ll be right back, OK? I’ll get you a drink and you can take a load off while you wait. That suit you?”

My smile answers for me before my words can, becauseof course extending this magical night suits me.What kind of crazy woman would I be if I didn’t stick this out until the very last moment and squeeze every last drop of hot, lusty joy out of my time with him? Sure, he might just be stepping in for my Tinder no-show, but that doesn’t mean I can’t make memories that’ll last a lifetime.

I press my teeth into my bottom lip to try to curb my smile somewhat, attempting to be just a little coy. “I suppose I can stick around a little longer,” I say. “Especially since you asked so nice and all.”

“I’m nothin’ if not a gentleman,” Kellen says with a wink before he tugs me closer, his big hands sliding around my waist and pulling me in before he dips his head and places a soft kiss on my forehead. I just want to melt at his feet. “Don’t go anywhere.”

“Am I at least allowed to visit the ladies?”

He grins before making a big show about thinking it over. “I guess I can make an exception. Just don’t take too long or I’ll come looking.”

“In that case, I might just take my time,” I tease, waggling my brows as I head toward the bathrooms, passing a few drunken stragglers along the way.

The moment I get inside the small room lit with cute pink lighting, I let out a massive sigh filled with happiness and hopefulness because not only do I get a strong sense that I’m getting lucky tonight, I also have a feeling this guy is going to bemind blowingin the sack.

Dear lord of sexy times, please let it be so!

Just as I finish my prayer for my nether regions, my cell buzzes in my bag. When I pull it out, I realize I’ve missed more than a few messages from my roommate, Charity.

“Oh shit!” I say as soon as I see them. I was supposed to message her to let her know I’m OK.

I’m seriously about to call the cops to report you missing right now!the last one says on top of the stack of notifications on my lock screen.

I tap it quickly and reply back.

Me: So sorry! Night started off terribly, but it’s ended up being one of the best nights I’ve ever had. I’m still at the bar and I’m hoping I won’t be back home until morning…

Charity: Thank fuck! I was having visions of you buried in the woods somewhere! Don’t scare a girl like that!!!

Me: I’m sorry! I really am. I’ll make it up to you by baking you a cake.

Charity: And I want details, too. Scaring your best friend means allllll the details.

I smile as I read her words, feeling guilty for not checking in, but also feeling loved that she cares enough to keep trying—not to mention relieved because she can be easily mollified by the lure of a decadent mocha cake, which is her favorite. I’ve got a great friend in Charity.

Me: You got it. Mocha cake with a side of ice cream and gossip.

Charity: Deal. Have fun tonight <3

Me: That’s the plan ;)

As I slide my cell back into my purse, a light tap on the door puts the smile right back on my face.

“Anyone in there with you?” Kellen’s deep rumbly voice asks from a slight crack in the door.

“It’s just me,” I respond, grinning even wider as he pushes the door open fully and steps inside. “I’ve barely been in here a minute.”

“And yet, here you are, standing there like you’re waiting for me to find you.” He slides his hands around my waist as he brushes his nose alongside mine.

“I was texting my roommate, if you must know. She was checking up on me.”

“Ahh. Good friend. Does that mean you want me to go?” He thumbs over his shoulder, then takes a step away from me. In response, my hand shoots out and grabs his belt buckle, my fingers dipping into the waist of his pants so he doesn’t get very far.
