He pulled out of my grasp and said, “I made you something.” He fished in the pocket of his jacket and pulled out a tiny cardboard box, the kind that only held a single cupcake, and put it on the workbench.

Huh.

I opened the lid carefully to reveal a tiny, perfect gingerbread house. “Oh wow,” I said, genuinely impressed. “That’s gorgeous. Are you entering it in the contest?”

Cameron bit his lip. “No. Look closer.”

I eased the house out of the box and sat it on my palm, and that was when I saw it. Embedded in the front door of the house, gleaming softly, was a key.

I didn’t need to ask what it was for. But because this was Cameron and I knew he liked things to be clear, I lifted my head and said, “Is this what I think it is?”

His cheeks flushed pink. “Just, I know your lease is up at the end of the month, and I know you spend most nights at my place anyway, so I wondered if you’d like to move in with me. Officially.”

I set the house down, scooped Cameron up and sat him on the workbench, and kissed him until we were both breathless. When I pulled back, his eyes were bright and he was grinning. “So is that a yes?”

“Obviously.” A wave of affection washed over me as I thought about Cameron taking the time to bake and decorate the tiny gingerbread house, just for me. “Have I told you that I love you?” I said, leaning my forehead against his.

“I love you too.” Cameron kissed my cheek, then looped his arms around my neck, gave me a soft smile, and said, “Let’s go home.”

Home.

Yeah. I liked the sound of that.
