I finally see something that looks like a streetlight and pick up my speed. I just need to find someone who can help me.
“Chelsea.”Holy shit.I skid to a stop because he’s somewhere right in front of me, blocking me off. “You can’t outrun me.”We’ll see about that.I turn around and head the other way. He starts laughing maniacally, and it makes the hair on my arms stand on end. “You stupid bitch.”
I pass by the stream and a group of trees when a hand clamps over my mouth and a strong arm wraps around my waist. I’m pulled against a hard body, and I start fighting like hell. They’ll have to kill me before I go back.
“Shhhh,” a voice whispers. “It’s Evander.” My brain struggles with that name, and I keep coming up blank. My fight mode goes into overdrive, and he grunts. “Shit. I’m here with Sean.”
Sean? It could be a trick, and tears well in my eyes when I can’t figure it out. Brady would know who to use against me, and he said he wasn’t out here alone. I struggle even harder, and I feel him shove something in my ear. I scream against his hand, and that’s when I finally hear it.
“Gorgeous?”
“Sean?” I cry and sag in Evander’s arms. It hits me then.Evie’s husband, Evander.
“Go with Van, Gorgeous. Jesus fuck. I’ll see you back at the car.”
Van lets his grip on my waist go and turns me to face him. I hand him the comms piece back. “I’m so sorry,” I whisper, tears pouring down my face. Sean’s alive, and I’m almost to safety.
Van pulls his mask to the top of his head, smiling softly. “Don’t apologize. I would have kicked my ass too.” He holds his hand out for me. “Let’s get out of here.”
We make our way slowly through the woods and cross over the main road, heading into a denser area. When the black SUV comes into view, and Sean is pacing beside it, the relief almost brings me to my knees. I jerk away from Van and jump into his arms, wrapping my legs around his waist. He hits his knees with me still attached to him, squeezing me so hard that I feel like I might explode. But I welcome it and squeeze him just as hard.
“Gorgeous,” he whispers. “I’m here.”
“I thought you were dead,” I cry, barely hanging on by a thread.
He pulls back and grabs my cheeks. “I promised I’d never leave you.”
“We have to move,” Micah says gently. “It’s good to see you.” Micah reaches down to help me to my feet and then does the same to Sean. My brows furrow when I see how wobbly Sean is on his feet. Holden gives me a soft smile and climbs into the very back of the SUV.
We slide into the middle seat, and he brings me to his side. “What’s wrong?”
He kisses the top of my head. “I’m just so fucking happy to see you, Gorgeous.”
I see Micah’s eyes flash to him in the rearview mirror, and then he shakes his head. “What aren’t you telling me, Sean?”
“We’ll talk about it later. I promise.”
I swallow the lump in my throat. “Where’s everyone else?”
Sean blows a breath out. “Pinned down, but we have help heading their way.”
“Is everyone…?”
“Alive? Yeah. For now.”
I lose it then. Big wracking sobs that I’ve been holding back since Brady grabbed me. Sean pulls me onto his lap, and I see tears in his beautiful blue eyes. “I love you so damn much,” he chokes out. “I can’t lose you either.”
“I love you too.”
He crushes me to his chest and lets me cry, rubbing my back and whispering soothing words. I don’t know how long it goes on until the sobs finally turn to hiccups. I snuggle into his chest, and he lets out a sigh.
“They got them out,” Van says, turning to look at us.
Sean’s whole body sags against the seat. “Thank fuck.”
“Who got who out?”
“Les, her crew, and some of Micah’s went to get Axel, Kai, and Nolan. They got ambushed trying to get away. They called right after we got a location for you,” Sean answers.
