“Speaking of pushing…Kai?” I’ve never been so happy in my life that Sean was able to bring Kai back to us.

“Sometimes he needs a big ass push,” Sean laughs. “I think he’s fine now.”

“What about your legs?”

“They’re fine too. I still get weak sometimes, but Mia said that would be normal until I gain all the strength back.”

I grab his hand and lead him to the patio chairs so we can sit to have this conversation. “I wanted to talk to you about Mia. Les said that Gavin is going to need physical therapy, and I think she would be the best one for the job.”

“I agree, but what are we going to tell her? Gavin needs a lot more than I do, and that’s going to be hard to do in a house like that.”

“I know, and we can tell her that he just feels more comfortable at home. She can at least start, and when this is all clear, he can start going somewhere else for more treatment.”

“I thought you liked Gavin? Mia is brutal.”

I laugh. “She is, and that’s exactly what he needs. He has a really long road ahead of him.”

“Talk to her and see what she says.”

My phone starts ringing before I can answer, and my eyes flash to Sean when I see the number on the screen. “It’s Amber.”

“Go ahead and answer it and do what Axel said. It’s the only way to know.”

I slide to answer and flip it to speakerphone. “Hello?”

“Hey, babe. How is everyone?”

“We’re doing good.” I know I refused the idea of Amber working with Charlie. But the more I think about it, the more that I can’t help but see where they are coming from. “How are you?”

“I’m okay, but I miss you. When can I see you again?”

I close my eyes and swallow past the lump in my throat for what I’m about to do. “I’ll be home later if you want to stop by.” Axel and Cole set up surveillance at my townhouse; then we devised a plan to tell Amber to see if Charlie shows up. If he does, then we’d know the truth.

“Just you?” Sean frowns at the question. He shakes his head and mouths Axel.

“No. Axel will be with me.”

“Oh! I finally get to meet him. I’m so happy for you, babe. Are things still going strong with him and Nolan?”

My heart sinks, and Sean raises a brow. She has every bit of information about my relationship with the guys and theirs with each other. I never thought not to tell her because I knew she would be excited for me. Now I’m second-guessing myself that she was just pumping me for information. “Better than ever.”

“That’s so awesome. Maybe one day I’ll get lucky and have a bunch of sexy guys drooling over me and each other.”

“I’m sure you will. I have to go, but I’ll meet you at my house in about an hour?”

“Sounds good. Love you!”

“Love you too.” I disconnect the call and sink back into my chair, all the energy leaving me at once. “I feel like shit about doing this.”

“I know, Gorgeous. But this is the only way to know for sure without putting you in danger. If Charlie doesn’t show up, then we can try to remove her as a suspect.”

“You heard the questions she asked. What if she is the one feeding him information, and it’s my fault?”

Sean sits up and grabs my hand. “You can’t think like that. You had no idea what was brewing. Neither did we, for that matter. Let’s not mark her off yet.” He stands up and tugs my hand to pull me to my feet. “Let’s go tell Nolan what’s going on so he can pull up the feed.”

We make our way into the house, and they’re all still in the office where I left them. I fill them in on the conversation, and Nolan pulls up several split screens on my townhouse. Nobody says a word as we watch Amber’s car pull into the driveway almost forty-five minutes later. She gets out, notices my car is missing but goes to the door anyway, where she knocks several times. We watch her pull out her phone, and when my phone rings, I lock eyes with Axel.

“Tell her you’re sorry, but you ran into some issues, and you’ll call her later. This doesn’t mean anything.”
