I reach over and squeeze her hand. “Whoever Charlie sends after them will figure out soon that they fucked up. Les and her guys can handle this.”
“I also got a message from Micah,” Axel continues. “Zane, Hart, and Banger are going to be spread out on the drive, ready to drop anyone who messes with Les.” Chelsea frowns, and Axel smiles. “They’re snipers. Also, Cole? It’s your time to shine.”
Cole perks up with a huge smile on his face. “I get to use my grenade launcher?”
“Yes,” Axel laughs. “Ari’s on his way with two. One for you and one for Les’ team.”
Cole leans across the table, jerks Axel’s mouth to his with a hand on the back of his head, and lays a sound kiss on Axel’s lips. “This is like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and my birthday all rolled into one.”
Axel shakes his head. “Ghost and his crew will be waiting as a diversion so we can slip through. All of them have orders to kill on sight.”
“What about Gavin? We just moved him here,” Chelsea asks.
“Since we added in Baxter and Roland, I feel better about leaving him here with Ari. The main reason we moved him was because we didn’t trust Ari’s team. Now that we know that we can, I think it’s safe,” Axel answers.
“What happens after we move to the safe house?” Nolan wonders, looking around the table.
“We go after Charlie instead of him coming after us. I want you to run facial recognition constantly, and Holden said he’ll do the same. You guys just need to figure out what territory you’ll each be doing. Lex said that the cabin is set up with power and WIFI, so you’ll still be able to do your thing. As for Brady, I’m sure he’s gone into deep hiding since his dad is dead and his mom is missing. He’ll eventually show his face, though, and when he does, we take him out.”
“I still want to do it,” Chelsea reminds him, subtly rubbing her chest where he cut her.
“I know, and you’ll get your chance. We’ll figure it out once we get you out of here safely. Pack what you need. We move out in an hour.”
I follow Kai and Chelsea to her room since that’s where most of my stuff is. She walks into her closet and just stands there. I walk up behind her and slide my arms around her waist. “What’s wrong, Gorgeous?”
She leans back against my chest with a sigh. “I worked really hard for this house. When Charlie finds out that we tricked him, I’m afraid he’ll destroy it.”
“When you put it in lockdown mode, doesn’t that protect the inside?”
“Against certain things. But Charlie has always hated me, so he’ll just do what he can to tear it down.”
“I think I have an idea. Pack your stuff, and I’ll talk to Axel, okay?”
“Okay,” she says quietly. She grabs a bag from the shelf, and I go back into the room.
“Hey, Gorilla. Will you pack my stuff while I talk to Axel?”
“Yeah. What’s up?”
“Chels is worried about her house, and I think I have an idea to ease her mind.”
Kai shrugs. “Sounds good.”
I jog into the room Axel shares with Nolan, and he turns to give me a funny look. “I have an idea,” I announce.
“Whatever it is, no,” Axel answers, shoving some stuff into a bag. “Your ideas usually get us shot at.”
I huff in annoyance. “It’s not like that this time. Chels is worried about leaving the house unattended, so I thought maybe we can move Gavin and the team in here until we get back. It gives them more security and eases her worry.”
“The whole point of us leaving is because Charlie is coming here. Why would we move them in here to deal with the same?”
“Because Charlie is either going to think we’re dead or fell off the map.”
“Then he’s going to come after us stronger to make sure. The first place he’s going to hit is here, and he’s not going to sneak around the gates this time.”
“So, we just let him destroy her livelihood and home?”
Axel turns around to look at me. “I’m doing my best here, Sean. I’m trying to keep you guys safe and Ari’s team safe. I can’t worry about this house on top of it.”
