“That doesn’t take much,” Ghost says. Les flips him off, making Zane chuckle.
“Anyway, I’ll stay here with two guys and the girls. I think it’s safer not to move Chels anywhere else as long as that’s okay with her.”
I look at her, surprised. “It’s up to me?”
“Yes. Unlike these Neanderthals, I won’t take away your decisions.”
“Who are you calling a Neanderthal?” Axel demands.
“No one that belongs to me will be going to any strip shows,” Les says, trying to make her voice as deep as Axel’s. Sean almost falls out of the chair from laughing so hard. Nolan snorts a laugh and then tries to hide his face when Axel glares at him.
“I agree to stay here,” I say, hiding the laugh that wants to erupt. It’s no use when Axel looks at me with narrowed eyes. I give him the same look, and his lips twitch, fighting a smile.
“Alright, it’s settled. When do you want to do this?” Axel asks.
Before anyone can answer, Les’ phone starts ringing. She slides to answer, then flips it to speakerphone. “Hey, Holden.”
“Hey, Bright eyes. I was calling to tell you that they hit that other safe house. Hart’s there now, making sure Charlie doesn’t show. So far, he hasn’t.”
“We need to stay on alert now because he’s going to be coming for them. I’ll call you back, okay?”
“Okay, I love you.”
“I love you too.”
Les disconnects the call and looks at Axel. “Now’s the time since he’s already going to be on the warpath.”
Axel nods. “Let’s go tonight. Can you guys organize that by then?”
Les snorts. “Don’t insult us. Call Zane when you figure out what team is hitting where since he’s going to take point with my guys. Nolan, can you send Holden everything you know about these warehouses?”
“I can.”
I sit up with a gasp. “Someone needs to warn Ari. You know Charlie is going to hit there.”
“Why don’t you call him, Ladybug?”
I pull out my phone and hit dial on Ari’s number that Sean put in there. He answers on the second ring, and I flip it to speakerphone. “Hello?”
“Hey. Charlie hit the fake safe house. He’ll be coming your way.”
“Are you worried about me, baby?”
Axel growls and snatches the phone. “I’ve already told you multiple times to quit flirting with her, motherfucker. The next time you do, I’m going to shove my Glock down your goddamn throat.”
Ari busts out laughing. “I’m fucking with you. Jesus Christ. No need for threats of bodily harm. Keon and Roland are on patrol right now. I have it under control.”
“Ari,” I say quietly. “Don’t risk your life for the house. If it gets bad, get Gavin and get out.”
“For what we have planned, they won’t make it past the gate.”
“We have some shit about to go down,” Axel says. “Be extra vigilant tonight.”
“You got it, boss.”
The call disconnects, and an eerie silence falls over the room.
I just hope this isn’t a warning of what’s to come.
