We makeit to Forest Grove in record time with Axel driving well over the speed limit. Nolan said he would stay behind to run surveillance. We park two blocks from Amber’s apartment, and Axel shoves the SUV into park. “It’s going to be hard to get in unseen. Sean, do your creepy thing and let us know when the coast is clear.”

“First of all, it’s not creepy, it’s cool.” Sean pops a loud, sloppy kiss on Axel’s cheek. “I’m so proud of you for this morning. When this is done, I need all the damn details.” Sean pulls his mask down before Axel can answer and slides from the SUV. He looks around for a split second and then disappears behind a row of townhouses.

“After all this time, I still have no idea how the hell they do that,” I muse. “Ghost is just as good.”

“From what I know, the guy that taught them that was ex-special ops or some shit,” Axel explains.

“Bring your asses on,” Sean whispers into the comms. “It’s hot as fuck out here.”

“A simple it’s clear would have sufficed,” Kai mutters.

“I don’t have time for your shit, Gorilla. I have sweat in places it shouldn’t be.”

We laugh under our breath and quietly leave the SUV. We get almost to Amber’s apartment when Sean materializes out of nowhere. Axel tries to hit him, but he disappears back into the shadows. “I hate that shit,” Axel grouches.

“You’re just mad your big ass can’t do it. I have the lock open and the alarm disabled. Let’s move.”

We climb up to the second-floor balcony of Amber’s apartment, and Sean is waiting for us in the living room. We keep our masks on just in case she happens to have cameras. “Rip everything apart. Make it look like a robbery,” Axel orders.

We split into different rooms, and I end up in her bedroom. Sliding gloves on, I start with her dresser, dumping clothes out of the drawers, going through the jewelry boxes, and anything else I can find. I see a USB in a drawer with her rings, so I slip it into my pocket for Nolan to look at later. I search her nightstands and desk, and strip the bed before pushing the mattress off. There’s a big manilla envelope under there, so I slide it under my arm and move to her en suite bathroom.

“Anything?” Axel asks. I tell him what I have, and he barks a laugh. “What if it’s a sex tape with Charlie?”

Sean gags loudly. “You’re disgusting. Now I need to find bleach to wash my brain out.”

“I mean, Charlie’s just an older version of Axel,” I say and wait for the response; it doesn’t disappoint.

“Axel, you know I love your cock, but I can no longer look at you the same.”

“I fucking hate you, Cole,” Axel growls.

“You love me, and you know it,” I laugh.

“Right now, that’s up for debate.”

“You brought it up,” Kai points out. “And I also found a couple of USBs stashed in the kitchen.”

“Why would you hide them in the kitchen if you didn’t want them to be found?” Nolan’s voice filters through comms. “I’ll run them for viruses when you guys get back. Maybe they have some information we need in there.”

“Or Charlie balls deep in Amber,” Sean chuckles.

“Or Brady,” Nolan counters, and I freeze. That thought never crossed my mind that she could also be helping Brady. He could be just what we need to get Charlie to lose his shit. Charlie’s been two steps ahead of this the whole time, now we just need to tip the scales.

“You think Brady’s fucking Amber too?” Chelsea asks.

“Good morning, Ladybug. We don’t know anything for sure, but it would make sense.”

“You guys have company,” Ghost’s voice cuts in. “What does Brady look like again?”

“Blond hair, blue eyes, and dead when we get our hands on him,” Axel answers.

“I’ll send you a picture. Hold on,” Nolan says.

“That’s definitely him. He just pulled up in a black SUV by himself, but he’s just sitting here.”

“Keep an eye on him. Detain him if you need to. Don’t let that motherfucker get away,” Axel commands. “Let’s finish this.”

We rip through the rest of the apartment and let Ghost know we’re done. He says that Brady is still waiting outside and for us to stay put.
