“She’s broken worse than anything I’ve ever seen,” I admit. Her screams and cries are burnt into my brain. Those noises are something that I’ll never forget. “Please tell me you didn’t do that to her.”
“I didn’t,” Sean says raggedly. “I swear on my life, I’d never do that.”
Cole came up with a plan in the car that might get this out in the open. Les is going to make sure Chelsea can hear every word so we can prove this one way or the other. I lean forward. “Prove it. They’re going to wake Charlie up. As soon as I get the word, we’re going to have a blow up, then I’m going to pull the trigger. Charlie will gloat if he thinks you’re dead.”
“Are you really going to shoot me?”
“That depends on what he says.” I stand from the chair and pull my phone from my pocket. I send a text to Ari and get one back seconds later, telling me Charlie’s awake. I start yelling a bunch of shit, and Sean follows suit. We make sure that Charlie can hear me blaming Sean, and then I pull the trigger on my Glock, putting a bullet in the wall. Sean plays his part with wide eyes because the bullet grazed right by his ear. I march down the basement to the holding cell, and Ari unlocks it. “Time to get up.”
Charlie starts laughing. “You’re an idiot.”
“Why now?”
“Because you just shot your best friend because I said so.” Charlie starts laughing harder but starts hacking because of the damage I did at the compound. “Sean didn’t have shit to do with anything.”
I flick a glance at Ari, and he’s already moving to untie Sean. I can’t believe I let this asshole even put a sliver of doubt in my head. I squat down in front of Charlie and deliver the first blow of many. I know the moment Sean walks in behind me because Charlie’s eyes widen. “I’m not as stupid as you’ve always thought I am. You’ve been trying to play me from the beginning. But guess what?Wewon. Brady’s dead, and now so is Amber.”
For the first time in my life, I see sadness in Charlie’s eyes. He has more love for some girl than he does for his own son. I grab him by the front of the shirt and start dragging him to the center of the basement. Ari, Sean, and I get him strapped to the table. Cole and Kai walk into the basement, and I can see the relief in both of their eyes to see Sean beside me.
“Just so you know, I get that you did what you had to do,” Sean says, turning to look at me after shoving a rag in Charlie’s mouth. “But you have some major making up to do. You can start by sucking my cock every day for a goddamn month.”
Relief hits me square in the chest, and I jerk Sean into a hug. “I’m so damn sorry.”
“I would have done the same thing,” he says, wrapping his arms around me. “Now, let’s kill this asshole so I can go beg my woman to look at me.”
“She already knows.” Chelsea’s voice floats through the basement, and she has tears streaming down her face. “You didn’t do it?”
He walks slowly toward her. “I’d never hurt you, Gorgeous. You’re the love of my life.”
She looks to me for confirmation, and I nod my head. Chelsea jumps into his arms, and there’s not a dry eye in the fucking room. “I’m sorry, Sean.”
“Don’t you dare apologize to me. We’re all under so much pressure, eventually, we were going to break.” He pulls back and grabs her face. “Now, we can put it all back together. Are you with us?”
“Yes.” She roughly wipes tears from her eyes. “I should have never believed her. Deep down, I didn’t, but it hurt so bad.”
“I’m proud of you,” I say quietly, and her eyes fill with tears again. She opens her mouth, and I hold up my hand. “No apologies for me either. I love you, Cupcake.”
“I love you too. All of you.” Gray pushes through the door behind her, and she steps to the side. “I’m going to let you do your thing. I’ll be upstairs waiting.” When she smiles, it lights up her whole face. “It’s truly over. Live in it.” She pops a kiss on Gray’s cheek and shuts the door behind her.
Gray walks over to Charlie, and I watch the recognition dawn on Charlie’s face. Gray reaches out and rips the rag from Charlie’s mouth. “If it isn’t the Reaper,” Charlie sneers.
“I’m not the Reaper anymore.” Gray pulls leather gloves from his pockets and starts pulling them on. “But for you, I’m making an exception.”
Cole, Kai, and Sean step to the back of the room, leaving Gray and me with our useless father. For years growing up, I feared this man. Now, he looks small, not the larger-than-life man I remember him as. A life full of hatred is going to be brought down by the two sons that he never wanted.
“Both of you are cowards,” Charlie spits, jerking on his binds. “You couldn’t even face me like men!”
I laugh before I can stop myself. “We did face you.Youare the one who sent people to do your dirty work.Weare the ones who hunted you down.” I get in his face just because I know it will piss him off. “Wewon.” I look at Gray, proud as hell of him. He’s the only good thing that’s come out of Charlie. “You ready, brother?”
“Never been more ready in my life.”
“Isn’t that fucking sweet.”
Gray pulls back and busts Charlie right in the mouth. “Keep talking shit, and I’ll cut your goddamn tongue out.” Gray pulls a leather pouch from his back pocket and lays it on Charlie’s stomach. When he unrolls it, it’s full of sharp knives. “You really thought you could take me from my family? There’s nothing more important than them in this life. You don’t even know me, but just because I’m your spawn, you automatically hate me. That tells me what kind of person you are. Miserable, cowardly, and lonely.”
“You had to snatch an eighteen-year-old girl off the streets just to fill that void,” I continue, pulling on my own gloves. It feels right that it’s going to be Gray and me doing this together. “Look where that got her. Dead.”
“I loved her,” Charlie snarls.
