“I love you too,” Chelsea chokes out. “Please hurry.”

“We will, I promise.”

I disconnect the call and peek at Axel, who’s smiling from ear to ear. “That’s my boy.”

I swallow down the emotion and go back and forth, calling everyone from Ghost’s team. The more time that goes by that they don’t answer, the faster Axel starts going. We finally get a message from Hart saying that he finally talked to Ryder, which is temporary relief from the overwhelming panic. We just hit Abbs Valley city limits when my phone rang, and Nik’s number flashes across the screen.

“Hello?”

“We have them. They were pinned down.”

“We? You left the girls alone?” Axel growls.

“No. Do you really think I’d leave Bridget unprotected? Vincenzo and Giovanni came as soon as I called. Cian and Hunter stayed with the girls and Holden.”

“Sorry,” Axel mutters. “We’re almost back to the cabin now. Everyone else should be too.”

“We’ll see you soon.”

The call disconnects, and I collapse back in the seat. The first thing I’m going to do is find Chelsea and kiss her.

Then tell her to her face how much I love her.

Chapter29

Sean

Ican’t describe the feelings I had when that explosion echoed through the comms. I thought for sure that the other teams were dead. When no one would answer me, I freaked the fuck out, which I don’t normally do. We’re trained to deal with the panic, to push it down, but when it’s people you love, you don’t have that luxury anymore.

The cabin comes into view, and Chelsea comes rushing out on the front porch with Les close behind her. I see the Glock tucked beside Les’ thigh, and I’ve never been more thankful that she’s here with Chelsea. I know Chelsea can protect herself, but it never hurts to have someone else by her side.

Nolan’s out of the car first, and we let him after overhearing what he said to her on the phone. He has her in his arms and his lips sealed over hers in two seconds flat. I watch Axel smile and slide out of the SUV. She runs to each of us to hug, kiss, and tell us that she loves us. I’ve never been so fucking happy in my life knowing that I get to share her with my family. I wrap my arms around her shoulders and lead her into the house where everyone else is waiting. I sit down, pull her into my lap, and bury my nose in her hair, breathing in her sweet scent.

Axel leans against the wall and crosses his arms over his chest so he can address the room. He looks at Hart. “I think you’re right about perimeter alarms. He probably got smart after we hit the other warehouses. I should have thought about that, and I apologize for putting you guys in danger.”

“You can’t plan for everything, no matter how bad you want to,” Ryder says. “Shit happens, and we know what we’re getting ourselves into here. Now we know for the next time.”

Axel’s phone rings, interrupting what he was about to say. “Ari,” he replies before sliding to answer. “Hello?”

“You want the good news or bad news?” Ari’s voice comes through the speaker. I pull Chelsea tighter when her body goes rigid.

“Just hit me with it.”

“Good news, we’re all alive. Bad news, Charlie hit us pretty hard, and the house sustained some damage.”

“I don’t care about the house as long as you guys are okay,” Chelsea assures him. “If it’s not safe, you guys need to leave.”

“Fuck that. I made you a promise, and I intend to keep it. It’s mostly the unofficial part of the house. He hit us about thirty deep, and two guys slipped past us. They hooked something up to the door, and it exploded seconds later.”

“Did they get inside the house?” Axel asks.

“Yeah, but Gavin picked them off.”

“Gavin?” Ghost asks, shocked.

Ari chuckles. “You aren’t giving him enough credit. He’s a dead-shot and didn’t even hesitate. Keon and Tyler are covering up the damage right now, and we’ll have it fixed before you get back.”

“Don’t worry about that. I’ll have it done when we come home,” Chelsea replies.
