I sigh because I don’t want to ask what I have to next, but I need to know how badly my father has ruined what I once considered home. “How bad is it over there?”
“Honestly? A fucking mess. He’s pulling in kids that are barely eleven to train, killing anyone who goes against him, and everything in between. Everyone is afraid to breathe. My team and I have done what we can, but there’s only so much that we can do before we end up six feet under. He has too much security surrounding him to overthrow him, and without someone in place, it will go to Abraham by default.” And that will be a thousand times worse.
“We need a plan.”
Tivon cocks his head to the side, studying me with dark eyes. “We?”
“I’m going to need all the help that I can get. You still have allies over there, I don’t. And I need to get the fuck out of this hospital.”
“I’ll work on getting the safe house set up.” Tivon stands from his chair and turns back to look at me. “But you aren’t going anywhere until I know that it’s safe.”
With that, he spins on his heel and leaves the room.
Leaving me to glare at his back.

JASON
Ithought I was prepared for Ari to be a pain in the ass while recovering, but I absolutely wasnotprepared for the complete bear that he would turn into. He glared at everyone, barked at people, and growled more than I thought was normal for a human.
And we were only on day three at the hospital since he woke up.
“Ari,” I sigh for the hundredth time today as he runs a nurse out of his room again with his attitude. “This isn’t helping anything.”
“I want to get the fuck out of here.”
“I know, but you can’t right now. You’re still hooked up to IVs that we can’t take care of outside of here.”
“I don’t need this shit.”
I take a deep breath, reigning my own temper in. “You obviously do.” I ignore his glare and sit in the chair by his bed. The team is still coming to visit, but they don’t stay long. The only ones who can deal with him are me and Kira. The guys just suggest restraining him to the bed. “Ari, we’re doing what we canto get you out of here as fast as possible, but we won’t risk your health to do so.”
“I’m a sitting fucking duck here.”
“Tivon has his team watching the cameras twenty-four-seven, and Axel has the teams rotating on shifts on the outside. You’re covered.” Tivon is another one who’s a constant here, just not in Ari’s room. He stands guard constantly in the waiting room, more than ready to eliminate a threat. It’s given me a chance to get to know him and made me feel better about having him around. He’s quiet for the most part, but it’s his calming presence that I’ve gotten used to. He’s talked me out of killing Ari over the last three days more than once.
“Keon got shot, and he got to leave.”
I’m not going to point out that he sounds like a fucking child right now.“He also wasn’t on life support. You also had a lot of other stuff wrong.”
“You don’t have to keep repeating yourself.”
I stand from the chair before I can say something that I’ll regret. I leave the room without a word or turning back to look at Ari. Iknowhe’s in pain and scared about safety. I get that, but I don’t know how many more times I can deal with him biting my head off.
Tivon looks up from his place in the waiting room and gives me a small smile. I don’t even have to tell him what happened, he knows. I flop in the chair beside him. “I don’t know how much longer I can argue with him.”
Tivon checks something on his phone and then shoves it into his pocket. “He should be coming off most of the IVs today, and then we can work on getting him moved.”
“I don’t even think that’s going to improve his attitude,” I mutter, scrubbing my hands over my face.
Tivon chuckles. “Maybe not, but at least his biggest complaint will be taken care of when he’s out of here.” My watch beeps and Tivon frowns. “What is that?”
“My heart rate is up. Shocking, I know.”
“You must take care of yourself.” Tivon pulls his phone back out and types out a quick message, then gets to his feet. “Come. We’ll go get food.”
I know better than to argue, so I get to my feet and follow him to the elevators. When the doors close, I feel like the weight of the world is sitting on my shoulders. It kills me that I don’t know what to do for Ari. I know he doesn’t mean to be hurtful, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt each time. I feel Tivon’s hand on my elbow and realize I zoned out when he leads me from the elevator. I give him a confused look when he pulls me toward the front door. “The cafeteria is that way.”
