“Right there,” I call out, pointing when I see the access road. Tivon slows down just enough and smoothly glides onto the road. “We’re on the access road.”
“Ryder, Zane and Gage are almost there. They’re going to cut them off at the second turn off. Drive past and stop.”
Tivon jerks a nod to let me know that he’s on board. I turn in my seat to check on the others and find Kira and Jason with their heads buried in Keon’s chest. I turn back to Tivon. “We need to end this.”
“Agreed.” I take a second to look at him. He’s calm and collected, not even a drop of sweat to be seen. Both hands are braced on the steering wheel. The only thing showing his emotions are his clenched teeth. “After we get out of this, we take the fight to them. I’m going to have Alessa take care of the brothers that thought they could fuck with you. We have bigger fish to fry.”
I open my mouth to say something, and Tivon slams on the brakes, making the car skid to a stop. I jerk around to look and watch two SUVs blocking the path of the cars. Zane pops out of the sunroof, sniper rifle already ready. I disconnect the call with Les. “Get on the floorboard,” I yell at Kira and Jason before I’m jumping out of the car, AK at the ready.
My team is out behind me, making our way around the SUVs. Gunfire is echoing, glass is shattering, people are screaming. I pop off two shots, and enjoy it way too much when one of the guys drops. Zane fires one last shot to stop one guy from running, and then silence.
“Is everyone okay?” I call out, and breathe a sigh of relief when I get the affirmative, including from Jason and Kira.
Ryder takes a look around and then walks over to us. “We’re going to escort you to the next safe house. Dex called Axel to let him know what’s going on.”
“Who the fuck gave Gage tiny hands?” Zane grits out. Tyler and Gage start laughing, letting me know what the answer is.
“You can shoot him,” Tivon jokes. “Where the fuck does he keep getting them?”
“It’s Tyler, Babe,” I answer, and my eyes widen when I realize what I just called him. But when Tivon smiles at me, it makes it worth the look I’m getting from Ryder. “It’s hard to tell how long he’s had them.”
“We’ll search him when we get to the next safehouse,” Tivon says.
“Make it a strip search!” Tyler yells. “Get me naked, Daddy.”
I don’t miss the twitch in Tivon’s eye and start dying laughing. “Let’s roll out. Does this road connect back to the main?” I ask Ryder.
Ryder nods. “We can actually follow it most of the way before you need to get back on the highway. It gets rough toward the end, though.”
“I’d rather hit a few bumps than get run off the road again.”
I make a signal to pile back in the car, and then we’re following behind Ryder. I turn in the seat when I hear Kira laugh, thankful that she’s dealing with this okay. Even Jason seems to be handling it better than usual. I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing. Our entire relationship has mostly been based on us running, getting kidnapped, shot at, run off the road, and the list goes on. But yet, here he still is, right by my side.
“Are you good?” Tivon asks.
“Yeah. Just thinking about the shit I’ve put Jason through.”
“Youdidn’t put him through anything. We can’t pick who our parents are.”
I chuckle. “Jason said the same thing to me one time.” I lower my voice and lean closer to Tivon. “Sometimes I wonder if he would have been better off without me ever approaching him.”
Tivon tilts his head and considers what I just said. “I don’t think so. Did you guys getting together happen at a bad time? Absolutely. But we can’t control when our hearts decide they want someone.”
“When did yours decide?” I ask before I can stop myself.
Tivon glances at me and looks back at the road. “With you? When I first started training with you. I know I was young, but you were everything to me, Aryeh. That hasn’t changed. With everyone else, it happened gradually. At first I was on the outside looking in at what you’ve built here. The team, the relationship. And now, I get to be a part of something great.”
“So, you’re staying?” Tyler asks, butting into our conversation. I don’t even care, because I can hear the seriousness in his voice.
“Yeah. I’m not leaving.”
I can’t explain what that does to my heart or how it settles my mind. There was still a tiny bit of worry that once this was done, Tivon would go back to Israel.
None of us would be able to handle that.
The driveto the next safe house was uneventful. We all end up talking about the future - once I no longer have to deal with my father. Tivon was on edge when we got back, and I couldn’t figure it out until he kept shooting glances at Kira, and then I remembered what was going to happen before we left the other place. I decide to take matters into my own hands, grab my bag, and lead them both to the big bedroom. I shut the door behind me and lean against it, crossing my arms over my chest.
“It’s time to stop dancing around it,” I announce, and Tivon raises a brow. “I can leave or I can stay. But either way, Kira, you’re going to give him a taste of that pussy.”
