“Quiet,” Tivon hisses, holding his hand up for us to stop. I follow his line of sight and see two guys through the window of the apartment that we’re trying to get into.

“It’s been clear since last night. They must have been there,” Nolan replies, tapping away on his keyboard. “All the cars out front are the same.”

“So, stealth is out,” Tyler whispers. “Guns blazing?”

“Hold your position.” Tivon disappears the way that we came and comes back minutes later carrying a case. He lays it on the ground, opens the case, and has a sniper rifle put together in seconds. “I’m going there.” He points to a building to our left. “I need them to come to that window.”

“You get into position, and I got you,” Tyler responds.

We watch as Tivon carefully climbs up the fire escape stairs until he disappears on the roof. “Go.”

Tyler squeezes my hand, and I follow behind him, watching his back. We press against the buildings, staying out of sight until we’re at the apartment’s fire escape. “Ready?”

“Ready.”

Tyler starts shaking the fire escape rusty stairs and the only noise is the shattering of glass. “Go! Go!”

Tyler and I race up the stairs in unison, sliding into the shattered window, stepping over two bodies. Another one pops around the corner, and I grab him before he can open his mouth. I wrap my arm around his neck, pulling a knife from the sheath. I hold it to his throat. “How many more are here?” I press harder when he refuses to answer. “How fucking many?”

“Two more.”

Tyler nods in understanding and creeps down the hallway. I feel a disturbance in the air, and Tivon slips by me. I tighten my arm on the guy’s neck and hold on when he starts struggling. He goes limp in my arms, and I shove him beside his buddies to follow Tyler and Tivon. I step around the corner right about the time Tivon slashes one guy’s throat and Tyler kicks one in the face. They both drop, and we check the rest of the apartment.

“Keep an eye out for visitors,” I tell Nolan. “This place is trashed already.”

Tivon motions for us to follow him. “They were looking for the laptop.” He goes back to a bedroom and pulls a door to the closet open. He starts feeling around the wall until we hear a slight click. The wall opens to show three laptops, two phones, and cash. Tivon grabs the laptops and shoves the phones into his pockets.

“Guys. Two SUVs just pulled up outside.”

“Stay or fight it out?” I ask.

“They’re moving fast,” Nolan says.

“Let’s go,” Tivon orders. “We can follow them. They might take us to Abraham.”

We go back out the same way we came in, as silently as possible. Tivon grabs his sniper case on the way back to the car. We slide in and wait for Nolan’s signal that they’re moving. It doesn’t take them long to realize their friends are dead and the devices are gone.

“They’re coming your way.”

We duck down in the seat, waiting for them to pass. Tivon lets them get ahead of us before pulling out behind them. “Take a left at the light.” We follow Nolan’s directions word for word, staying out of sight.

Is this finally it? Are we finally going to be able to end this?

“What the fuck?” Tyler says when we see where they’re going. “Is that another prison?”

“Not as secure, but yeah,” Tivon answers. He pulls into a wide spot, putting the SUV in park. “Nolan, do you still have eyes?”

“I can see until they go through the gates. Hold on.” The sound of Nolan’s fingers flying across the keyboard is all we can hear before he speaks again. “All cameras are offline inside. Give me five minutes and I’ll have them back up and running.”

“That’s my boy,” Tyler replies. “Do you think he’s in there?”

“Most likely. This is Abraham’s signature. They’re preparing to grab Aryeh again,” Tivon responds. “Our timeline to move safe houses just moved up. We need to get out today.”

“Do you think they know where he is?” I ask, my palms already sweating. They’re basically defenseless with Ari and Keon both healing. “What do we do?”

Tivon pulls his phone from his pocket and dials a number. “Hello?” My eyebrows shoot up when I recognize Kane’s accent.

“Safe house compromised. Ari, Keon, Jason and Kira are there alone.”
