Before Jin could reply, the doors smashed open and Derek stepped through, a group of incubi and his handsome human sons on his heels. “Well look at this,” Derek boomed with his charming smile plastered on his face. Unlike the Dragon King, the Incubus King held power over me in intimate ways. My Blood Stone was helpless as the sweet musk of his power swirled through me and made my knees go weak.

Jin frowned at my reaction, then released me and stormed over to the Incubus King. “You weren’t invited,” he boomed. “This is an initiation of my consort into the dragon community.”

Derek frowned, pausing only to wink at the blushing virgins who held each other for support. Their white powder streaked over their arms as they clawed at one another to keep from falling. “Looks like you’ve invited some human playthings. Are these for me?”

Jin growled. “The dragon’s hoard of virgins was not part of the agreement. You got what you asked for, which is more than you deserve.”

“You speak of such loyalty when it comes to your dragons. Do you all share such sentiment?” Derek’s gaze had found me and wasn’t about to let me go. “Let’s retire to somewhere private, my friend. I have something important to share with you.”

Jin frowned, but seemed intrigued by Derek’s request. “Fine,” he snapped, and pointed to the end of the chamber. “We’ll talk in the suite.”

Et Tu, My Brother?

Sonya

Jin slammed the doors behind us and rested his palms against the polished oak rimmed with gold bands. His tattoos swirled over his muscular frame, powerful enough to shine through the fine layer of his silk shirt. He turned and stared Derek down, one king to another. “What is so important that you must take us away from our festivities?” he asked curtly. His gaze shifted to me and Jet. “Much less that it requires their presence.”

I knew that the Dragon King saw me little more than a prize, and his brother was simply another toy he played with. But Derek was up to something, and every muscle in my body was taut with the readiness to drain my Blood Stone to fight him. For now, I sucked just enough of its power to keep my mind my own.

There was one last resort I had, should I need it, and it was the nubby white pill that I’d tucked into my locket along with the Blood Stone. It was the sole resistant I had to Derek’s powers made by his wife’s blood. She was the only woman on this planet who wasn’t affected by his magical charms.

I secretly cursed my chosen hiding place as Derek’s gaze flashed to my locket. This dress was horridly impractical, so there hadn’t been a better place to hide it. I only relaxed when I realized he was looking at my breasts.

“It seems that I made a poor choice in Sonya’s babysitter,” Derek said with a forlorn look that couldn’t have been less genuine. He sighed and produced his phone. “I believe it best that you see for yourself.”

Jet went stiff beside me as his brother took the device. I was baffled at what Derek could have meant… until the video began to play.

The sounds of my own recorded moans filtered through the room and I gasped as I realized that Derek had rigged the penthouse suite with cameras.

“What is this?” Jin snarled and shoved the phone at his brother. A damning image shone of Jet thrusting into me as he pushed me against the wall. The filter of our arousal and magic made the image blur with red.

“I…” Jet began, but his words trailed off as his mouth hung ajar.

As Jet floundered, the Dragon King’s eyes grew impossibly red, the magic in him brewing like a storm. His breaths came faster until soft smoke drifted from his flaring nostrils. “You, bastard brother, unworthy even of the pits of a lair, choose to defy me and claim that which is mine?” He tossed the phone to the ground and it splintered into pieces. Derek only smirked at the Dragon King’s rage. This was exactly what he wanted.

Jet’s jaw snapped shut, and even though there was fear in his reptilian eyes, scales erupted over his shoulders and a fine mist of his power flared. “What is yours? You’ve always claimed that which you do not deserve. Perhaps it is time that you earned your crown.”

I was certain that Jin would transform into a terrifying dragon right then, but Derek exhaled just a moment before that rage snapped. The sifting blue of his magic forced us all to relax. “As one king to another, I have a proposal to solve this little indiscretion.”

Jin regarded the Incubus King with a raised brow. “You test my patience.”

Derek bowed. “Perhaps if you included your brother with the other dragon sacrifices, I would be persuaded to expedite your release from Shanghai. He would help us to make significant advances in our plight, I assure you.”

“Sacrifices?” I screeched and latched onto Jet’s arm. “Do you see? I was right. Your brother is doing terrible things to help this monster. You have to do something!”

Derek boomed with laughter as Jin ripped me away from Jet’s arm. “Dear Sonya, the men are talking.” He ran a finger down my cheek, making sure to infuse me with knee-buckling desire. “You be a good girl and speak when you’re spoken to.”

“Don’t you dare touch her—” Jet snarled, but one wave of Derek’s hand and he slammed into the wall. As powerful as Jet was, he was no match for the Incubus King. He groaned as blue wisps swirled around him. Desire was what kept Jet pinned to the ground, unable to transform.

My locket burned with heat as I drew from it to resist him. My rage blurred my vision, but I ripped open my locket and shoved the pill into my mouth. The moment it crunched under my teeth I was ripped from Derek’s influence. My Blood Stone flared to life as I called upon it and my fingertips burned red. “I’m a modern woman, remember? I speak when I fucking feel like it.”

Derek snarled and Jin came at me, all fangs and rage. I pushed back with my power. Its intoxicating wealth that tasted of Luke and Jet gave me power, and lots of it. The marble under my heels singed black and both kings buckled to their knees as they clutched their heads. I wanted to make their blood boil. I wanted to end them, now.

But I was unfamiliar with a dragon’s power. “Sonya, run!” Jet shouted, but it was too late.

The Dragon King grew three times his size until he filled the suite with a reptilian stench. Rusty scales scraped against the walls and his neck elongated until he wasn’t human at all.

He opened a long snout, now lined with fangs, and my world filled with dragonfire.
