The sirens ignored the spectacle, having victims of their own to enjoy. I couldn’t understand how Sonya could fuck one of them, but I had an idea why. She’d saved one of Vikki’s victims. Some guy who looked like he had fallen out of ‘surfer dude’ magazine had stumbled off shortly after Sonya had found him. At first I thought she’d been looking for a victim of her own and was angry with the siren for taking what was hers. She’d been staking out the dive shop for quite a while and had been far too focused on watching the doors to even notice that I was lingering in a coffee shop nearby.
Now I watched, mouth agape, as magic engulfed the pair. Sonya’s deadly ember reds and Vikki’s vibrant blues clashed as they fed on one another. I hadn’t even known that such an exchange was possible. A siren fed on sorrow, and it didn’t take a genius to figure out that Sonya was conflicted and miserable. She hated herself and what she was. I had tried to accept her, to show her that it was okay. I knew she couldn’t control it, but to watch her now, fucking someone else just moments after she’d teased me with promises and sweet words made my fists clench and my dick hard.
I gained a sick sort of pleasure to know that Vikki was draining the very guilt that wrecked Sonya as she rolled under her, naked and exposed to my lingering gaze. That guilt was because of me, or so I hoped. Sonya wanted me. I had seen it in her eyes. It wasn’t just a succubus’ need to feed. She’d always wanted me.
But I wasn’t going to give in, not when she wasn’t ready for me. My dick strained against my jeans as I watched the siren bring Sonya to climax. She quivered and magic exploded around them in violent, furious waves. No one else would know what was really happening. This was already a unique pairing of succubus and siren, but I sensed another magic in the air. One of the runes on Sonya’s stomach blazed and made a low throb react in me, making me shift uncomfortably. I was close enough to feel the union of one of the seven… one of the sins that tormented my succubus. The knowledge came to me as a distant vision my mother had left in me. I was one of the seven, too; I was pride. I was glad to be one of her four connected to her destiny and her heart, not just someone that would linger on the outskirts like this siren who was always starving for more. I recognized gluttony when I saw it.
Having finally noticed the spectacle, a few sirens stopped feeding and openly stared. Vikki slumped over her victim, and my breath caught when Sonya didn’t move. A siren couldn’t outright kill someone. They had to drown them, right?
Then Sonya groaned, rolled Vikki off, and snatched up her clothes.
I eased into the shadows of the weeds, gritting my teeth as ants feasted on my ankles, and didn’t move a muscle as Sonya put on her clothes and stomped towards the villa.
I considered going after her, but curiosity got the best of me and I stayed to watch what Vikki would do. Embers still swirled in her veins and when her gaze focused across the shore to the other watching sirens, a red gleam flickered across her eyes. “What’cha looking at?” she snapped. She flicked her wrist. “Get back to your victims while you can. Apollo’s going to be furious with this mess.”

Apollo towered over the community of sirens. Dead humans lay strewn behind them like a fleshy sheet of blankets. “I’m gone for two weeks and this is what you call ‘behaving yourselves?’” he boomed.
The sirens closest to him shrank into themselves as he stormed up to them. “We’re sorry,” one murmured. “It won’t happen again.”
He gripped one of the girls hard, making her scales shimmer as her eyes widened with fright.
Heat burned in me and I dug my fingernails into my fists, reminding myself that the frightened siren I felt compelled to protect had just contributed to a massacre.
“Don’t interfere,” Luke murmured into my ear, his heat inches from my back as he leaned in to whisper the warning. “You’ll need your strength when Derek comes to town.”
Dammit. I knew he was right.
While Apollo continued to berate the sirens for their lack of control, I found Sarah with her hands clasped in front of her, a familiar pink skirt flirting with the wind as it whipped around her thighs. Except, there was no wind, and a vortex of her own icy power seemed to make her hair and clothes fling around her.
The sirens were afraid of Apollo, but they seemed to be even more terrified of Sarah’s growing powers. “It’s because of her,” one managed to say as she lifted a shaking finger in accusation. “She keeps messing with our heads!”
Apollo narrowed his eyes at his daughter. “Is that true?”
Sarah didn’t acknowledge the accusation. Instead, she blankly stared at the sea as if she hadn’t heard anything at all.
Vikki wrapped her fingers gently around Sarah’s arm and gave her a light shake. “Sarah, you feeling okay?”
Jealousy stabbed through me that Vikki’s soft voice was what got through to Sarah. The invisible winds calmed as she looked down at her girlfriend with a genuine smile. “I’m fine.”
Apollo glanced at me. “And who is the succubus and her friend?”
Ignoring the desire to cower as the male muse pummeled me with his attention, I straightened and drew on the power of my Blood Stone. His eyes widened just a fraction in surprise as I resisted his command to fear him. “I’m one of Derek’s lovers,” I said, my words coming fluidly with the truth. Apollo was a powerful muse and I knew better than to attempt a lie. While I wasn’t about to tell him why I was really here, I could find enough truth to get through a conversation. “I heard there was a party. Is that true?” I pushed my lips out into a pout. “Derek didn’t invite me.” I grinned. “But I know he’ll be delighted to see me there.”
Apollo appraised me with burning amber power in his eyes. I hated that I could see Sarah in him that way, all mysterious and enticing. A muse was an incredible creature with their beauty hidden in the soft whispers of their power. Even Apollo, a fairly handsome man but otherwise normal, betrayed his true gifts when he captured me with those eyes.
He glanced at Sarah. “You’re okay with your ex coming to the fete?”
She shrugged. “If she wants to go, I have no qualms.” She petted Vikki’s hand that was still on her arm. “As long as Vikki can be there. She wants to go too.”
The other sirens bristled with jealousy. The party, orfete, as Apollo eloquently called it, seemed to be by invitation only. I was dying to know what the Incubus King and ambitious male muse were up to, but I’d just have to go to the party to find out. Whatever it was, it wasn’t anything good.
Apollo stretched, the folds of his shirt lifting to expose sculpted abs that disappeared in a ridge down his jeans. “Very well,” he said. “Can’t resist the wishes of my beautiful daughter.” He cupped her face as a smile cut through his handsome cheeks. “Derek will know how to help you,” he whispered, hope a strange tone in his voice. “We’ll make this right.”
Alone with Luke in our bedroom, my cheeks burned with heat, both with the realization that Apollo was actually trying to help Sarah, and the fact that I hadn’t faced Luke since I’d fucked Vikki.
