“Olivia!”
“What!” she screeched as she splayed her arms open. “They were sitting right there on the table and in an inviting little golden box and everything! I thought you were sharing!”
I swiped my face with my hand. “Well, I guess I was, but I didn’t think you would want them. You hate the Demis as much as I do.”
She shrugged. “Chocolate is still chocolate.”
I leaned in, dying to know what had gotten Miss Williams’s panties all in a bunch. “So? What did they do? Did you get sick?”
Her eyelashes fluttered as she stared at her hands. “Uh, sort of.”
“What do you mean ‘sort of?’“
She bit her lip again and began to wring her hands. “Well, uh, they sort of caused… feelings.”
“What kind of feelings?” Olivia began to sweat. “Olivia! Just tell me!”
“Orgasms!” she yelled, flinging her arms into the air. “They caused orgasms, okay? Lots, and lots, of orgasms.”
I choked on a laugh and promptly covered my mouth. “Oh gods.”
“At first I thought I was going to vomit. Thought they were poisoned or something, you know?” She rambled as her gaze took on a glassy, distant appearance as if reliving the past trauma. “But then… I liked it. And then Ireallyliked it, you know? It became kind of addicting… and, well.” She rummaged in her pocket and produced a chocolate with golden flecks garnishing its surface. “I kind of spelled it with a cold spell so it won’t melt and I was saving it for later. I used some of the magic from my conduit orb, since it’s good for little spells like that. Anyway, I just wanted to hold onto it. Like for when I inevitably find out I’m going to run out of magic and die.” She shrugged. “Wanted to go out with a bang, and all that.”
A ridiculous grin made my jaw hurt, but it was worth it. I hadn’t heard anything this hysterical since, well, ever. “You seriously kept one? Even after you knew what they did?” I picked up the chocolate, admiring her spell that kept the surface cool and delicately smooth. The sweet scent coming off of it was absolutely sinful and even I was tempted to take a bite, but the last thing I wanted was to have an orgasm in front of my best friend.
“You can have that one,” Olivia said with a small grin as she produced another chocolate. “I kept two.”
My eyes widened as I realized the implications. “Oh gods. How long does it take to kick in?” How many chocolates did Miss Williams have before she figured it out?
“About ten minutes. I’m glad I only tried one first before I learned they were… special.”
Knowing Miss Williams penchant for sweets, she’d probably eaten the whole tin before…
I doubled over laughing. “Poor Miss Williams!”
Olivia covered her mouth as she snorted, no doubt coming to the same realization as I had.
Yeah, this was pretty much the best prank ever, and now that I had one chocolate left, I was sure going to put it to good use. “I think it’s time for Orion to have a taste of his own medicine—er, chocolates.” I held it up to the light, admiring the golden flecks. “Do you have any juice left in that orb? It’s time for some orgasmic payback.”
Chapter 4
With my orgasmic chocolate tucked away in my pocket, I looked forward to an opportunity to get back at Orion. I wasn’t sure when or how it would present itself, but I knew when it did, it would be glorious.
Until then, it was probably best to avoid the Demigod. I had kicked him in the balls, after all, and I didn’t want to get trapped by the Demis again. They’d found a way to feed off of my Virtue bond with Orion, even though it wasn’t fully established. Sleeping with Kaito had enforced the connection and brought me closer to accepting my destiny. Now it was as if the universe was pushing me to seal the deal with all of my mates, and it became increasingly apparent which ones were meant to share my soul.
Although picturing myself in a heartfelt relationship with Orion, Dante, Logan, and especially Hendrik made me wonder what kind of crack the universe was on. It had gotten Kaito right, at least. I enjoyed being around him, even if it was a bit taboo since I was a student, but he didn’t seem to mind, so neither did I. But Orion, well, he was an asshat Demigod who wanted to play games. Dante had spent a year on the outside forgetting about me while on some sort of “mission,” and Logan was going to hate me more than he already did once I figured out how to make his life miserable in order to pay back my debt to Hendrik. Speaking of the Dark Mage, he was the least likely to bend to my will and seemed to enjoy toying with me on a daily basis. I was his pet, as far as he was concerned, and nothing more. When I figured out how to bring him to his knees, he would be begging me for mercy.
Yeah, I’m romantic like that.
I wrapped my thin jacket around my shoulders as I hunched and disappeared into a plethora of students. My morning walk was usually accompanied by the warm glow of what passed for morning in the pocket realm that Fortune Academy occupied, but with the time shift and further burrowing into the space-time continuum, Fortune Academy was experiencing some unfortunate side-effects, such as winter-like conditions that made my nipples want to fall off.
I still didn’t quite understand all of it. Fortune Academy lived in its own little realm. Exactly “where” we were was a mystery, although rumor had it that Fortune Academy ran alongside the Hell realms—courtesy of Sonya, the first to combat Calamity. Apparently she was close to the witches who founded this place: Renee and Evelyn.
If that was true, it made sense that Fortune Academy always had a healthy warm glow and it never got cold—until now, at least. Who knew Hell could keep things so nice and toasty warm?
With another wave of Calamity on its way, Fortune Academy needed to pull itself away from the other realms. The way my newest professor explained it was that the Calamity was shoving all the realms together and they didn’t quite fit, which caused ill side-effects like supernaturals losing their memories. If we wanted to regain our memories, rather than regress further into whatever plans Calamity had in mind, our pocket realm needed to get the hell out of dodge. There was worse to come as the Echoes swept through our realities, especially if there wasn’t a champion to dampen the blow of the third echo that was well on its way.
We didn’t know what would happen this time, but it wasn’t going to be anything good. Kaito’s research estimated anything could happen, from full-out world destruction to acid rain to kittens learning how to talk—which sounded pretty adorable. I hoped it was that one. Unfortunately, we wouldn’t know until things progressed further along.
