He frowned at Gina’s clearly frazzled state, then glowered at me. “What’d you do?”
A humorless laugh burst out of me.
Closer to a snarl.
“I stopped her from running,” I said, my words as sharp as a blade. Tilting my head, I bared my fangs as I wrapped a protective arm around Gina. “And unlike you, I intend to keep her safe.”
Seif’s nostrils flared and Gina shrank against me as the musky scent of two angry Alphas overpowered her soft fragrance.
Her lips parted and her legs trembled as she clung to me for support. Our aggression only worked on her Omega instincts, but I had power over my transformation. I had become an Alpha by choice.
And my choice right now was to protect her. Not force myself on her.
Instead, I directed my anger and frustrations at Seifiek. He was lucky I had my Omega in my arms, or I would have pummeled his face in by now.
Our Omega, his voice corrected in my head, startling me.
I’d almost forgotten that Seifiek and I were bonded. He’d heard my thoughts.
Opening my walls, a rush of his emotions and thoughts swept over me as I drew in Seifiek’s mental state.
He was pissed off.
Not just at me, but also at himself.
“There’s a reason I took that memory from her,” Seif growled.
My eyes widened. “You did that to her?” Gina had completely forgotten who Seifiek was because of Etu. It had caused damage that needed to be repaired, because if she didn’t know who Seif was or what he was capable of, she’d never truly understand him, or understand why he could not be trusted. At least, not yet, not with her heart. “I thought it was Etu.”
Seif’s jaw ticked as if he’d said too much. “Etu was only able to wipe her memories and scatter pieces of her soul across the realm because of me. Because of what I started. It’s my fault. I take responsibility, but it doesn’t change the fact that I was trying to protect her.”
A sharp laugh huffed out of me again. “Really? That’s your idea ofprotectingher? You just break apart your Omega and leave me to pick up the pieces?”
Seif took a threatening step toward us and I shoved Gina behind me, putting myself between her and him.
Gina’s fingers pressed against my back.
“Please, don’t,” she said so softly that I almost couldn’t hear her over the roar of my rage.
Seifiek ignored her plea and got in my face until our noses brushed. He stared at me for a long time.
If he was waiting for me to back off, he’d be waiting an eternity.
“Yes,” he said, surprising me when his hot breath brushed my face.
“Yes?” I asked as his lips hovered over mine.
He stared down at them with his own lips parted. “Yes, Axel. I didn’t just choose you to be my Beta. Somehow, I knew this timeline would come.” He glanced up, locking his powerful gaze with mine. “I chose you for this. To fix her. To fix the mess I made.”
Then he kissed me hard enough to bruise.
Gina whimpered behind me, the violence and lust in the small room no doubt affecting her.
The scent of her arousal made me groan against Seifiek’s mouth.
Then he was gone, his back all I could see as he retreated.
Turning, I eased Gina in front of me and pressed my palm to her lower back.
