Rowan groaned, not in pain but in pleasure, as my toxin filled his bloodstream. Fire and silver battled in his eyes as blue flames licked over his body, only to transform into Dust.
It was working.
Mine,I repeated in my mind.
Yours… and hers,Rowan replied in kind, making me growl in approval as his pleasure grew.
He panted, then closed his eyes as he accepted my claim. His body trembled as his euphoria swam through our new connection, making me desperate to fuck.
He came, as I’d known he would, but he tilted his head to expose more of his neck, encouraging me to continue to feed from him.
So I did. I drew in his fiery blood and bonded us so permanently that not even the council could separate us.
His tongue flashed out on his lower lip when he finally opened his eyes. His gaze was on the window, though.
He was trying to reach Zeke. With the footing he’d already gained in the Web, he would accomplish his goal.
He was a strong Beta indeed.
One that was worthy.
Now, it was time that I proved to be worthy in kind.
A few moments earlier…
Stupid fucking asshole Alpha,I growled in my head.
Seifiek did not get to treat me like some errant Omega, not when lives were on the line.
He probably doesn’t give a shit,I thought, growling as I stormed across the path to the Collegium.
I yanked at the collar growing far too tight around my throat. He wasn’t the only Alpha being an absolute pain in my ass.
Amell and I would be in the same room soon, and with the effects I was already feeling around my neck, he absolutely had the upper hand.
A fleeting thought about whether Seifiek was right fluttered into my mind, but I immediately squashed it.
It didn’t fucking matter. Roderik was going to claim another Omega and that was just simply something I couldn’t allow to happen.
Even if it meant my own demise.
Walking through the soft sand on the warm path to the Collegium across from the Academy, I tried to ignore the stares I was getting. It was rare that a mated Omega, or even an unmated one, walked around unescorted.
But if anyone dared to try me right now, I’d claw their eyes out.
Whatever vibe I was giving off, it was respected, as the crowd around me naturally parted while I walked—except for the caravans. I had to maneuver around those.
It seemed the Collegium was getting more visitors than it normally did. Droves of wagons filled with goods were slowly ferried down the path led by Dust horses. They were creatures native to places like ThornWood Forest and dangerous when provoked.
I glanced at one, curious of the mare with a scar on her forehead. Her pristine coat shone with silver against the sun, glowing with light and Dust. She chewed at her bit and stomped at the ground.
Some of them grew horns, which made them very unicorn-like. I’d wanted one as a child, just like any little Faeling would, but my mother had told me only the most vicious of Dust horses earned their horns.
The scar suggested this one had boasted a horn at some point, but the black market was a place that thrived on such goods. I frowned, displeased by the suggestion that the Collegium would capitalize on the poor creatures, then use them as workhorses to transport their shit around.
Not saying a word, I walked right up to the mare. The Beta holding her reins finally seemed to notice me from his position up on the wagon’s step. “Oy!” he shouted. “Git, Omega. I’ve a schedule to keep.”
His accent betrayed him to be a member of one of the smaller Houses not officially recognized by the Collegium. Or maybe he was a rogue with no House at all, easy to manipulate and entice with the promise of a job for the Elders.
