“Tell me what you want, Gina. Tell me how to fix you.”

Her throat worked on a swallow as she stared at Seifiek’s retreating form. When he turned into the bedroom and disappeared, she looked up at me with wide eyes.

“Knot me,” she said. “Knot me in front of Seifiek and make him watch.”

Perhaps it wasa harsh punishment to give myself to Axel in front of Seifiek, but in that moment, I didn’t care.

It was what he deserved.

And if I wasn’t knotted by an Alpha right this second, I worried I might not survive.

Need coursed through me with an unforgiving burn that opened up my veins and allowed Dust to freely flow through me.

An Alpha could stem the flood.

Silver washed over my vision as I struggled not to run to the bedroom.

I wasn’t worried about slipping into Estrus. I had better control over it now that I had experienced it. Some species hit their Estrus on regular cycles, but Fortune Fae could control it, to a degree.

With some practice, anyway.

It was just as well, because this place was not nearly qualified to be called a Nest.

When I entered the bedroom, I saw that Seifiek had pulled on fresh bedding that smelled of lavender and roses. I slipped my fingers over the fine satin, knowing he must have conjured the sheets through his power.

I would have been satisfied to make a short trip into town to purchase what we needed. There was an emergency stash of human currency for this region under a loose floorboard.

But for now, I was grateful not to have to go anywhere. The pain winding through my stomach and across my thighs told me I didn’t have the luxury of time. Much less a shopping excursion on the other side of town.

Perching on the end of the bed, I glanced shyly at Seifiek. He watched me from his place against the wall. He held a stiff posture and crossed his arms, sporting a massive hard-on that made my mouth water.

My body knew him, but what little I remembered of him kept me on my perch.

Axel strode into the room and completely ignored Seifiek.

Seif’s nostrils flared as his muscular arms strained. It seemed he knew what was going to happen.

And he also knew he wasn’t going to be a part of it.

Axel didn’t order me to undress. He didn’t throw me on my back.

He didn’t take what he wanted from me.

Instead, he did the unexpected. He made his way straight to me, then fell to his knees.

I’d knownwhat would happen the moment I’d told Axel to fix my mistakes.

Not just because it was inevitable, but because I still walked the Web even now.

The future swarmed all around me, giving me insight upon insight into what secrets time might hold.

I’d never seen the future like this. So many paths overlapped one another and a hundred different visions showed themselves all at once.

Not all of them would come true. That was a limitation that the Elders had placed on the entire race of Fortune Fae, but it wasn’t the natural order of things.

Having prophecies was a skill that allowed us to articulate the patterns of the Web. Patterns that Gina had shown me once she had accessed the gift of the Shard.

The Shard itself held power, but it was more like a key. One that only Gina could wield to open the door to the cosmos.
