“Form a circle,” I demanded, my words sharp with command.
The alphas snarled at me, obviously not liking my tone, but I didn’t care.
“A circle,” I said again. “Like at the moondial.”
Ryker glanced at the ground, realization dawning on his face. He took his position a quarter from my left. “Do it,” he said, commanding the others to follow suit.
One by one all of the alphas took their position.
We didn’t have the High Moon on our side, but we had our link to a mate trapped behind a veil.
We had the beginnings of a courtship that burned hot in our veins.
We had our burningneed.
I threw my head back and howled with the pain of it, calling my mate to come out and end this.
I wouldn’t reject her again.
This time, I would finish what we had started.
She would bemine.
Katlyn
I trembled, but not from Kane’s attentions this time. A wave of power rushed over me, flushing my face with heat as my eyes flashed open.
It was as if I had been ripped from a dream, one where the white-haired wolf had cast a spell where I was a writhing ball of need.
Now, the others called me.
And they were close.
“Kane?” I asked, my need for him a fire in my belly. That need extended to the others, and I didn’t want it to. He deserved me. They didn’t.
“I’m here,” he said, cradling my hip against his.
I was naked before him, wet and hungry, but his attention went to the howls that called to me, demanding that I step outside.
“The alphas have found us,” he said just as the rest of his pack rushed back into the room.
Althea didn’t look pleased, her face a series of flat lines as the shifters crowded around us.
I realized that I was very naked. And very wet.
Their nostrils flared and my cheeks flushed with a new sort of heat.
“Look what’s happened,” the one named Galadria spat, her vibrant gaze locked on me. “She’s brought the packs straight to our door. After all this time hiding from them, we’re discovered in a single night.”
The ground rumbled, punctuating her words, but I didn’t think it was the alphas who had caused it.
“This is what has been Seen,” Althea said, her gaze hard. “The packs have been united, and now we must face an old enemy.”
It hardly felt like the packs had been united, yet technically all the alphas were in the same place. All of the alphas on the outside continued to howl, their aching sounds beating against the magic that hid this place. The walls shimmered and my body reacted with their need.
“Kane,” I said again, his name a plea as I clung to him.
I was losing my mind.
