Still, I didn’t want to overwhelm her. Right now all that mattered was returning her to her rightful realm.
I was attempting to mind my manners—this was her home, after all, and her mother was a rare Elemental, but the birth of a new Unicorn was a literal miracle. One that she clearly didn’t understand or appreciate.
“What’s important is that she leaves with me. Immediately,” I insisted, glancing around at the many eyes watching us. “She’s—”
“A Unicorn,” someone finally said.
A female approached wearing the traditional tight-fitting dress of the New Ameythst Coven. Bright ginger strands shimmered in a stylish ponytail and purple jewels glittered in her hair. She looked the part, with purple eyeshadow and a gorgeous necklace that marked her as one of the clan’s emerging leaders. Her dress showed off her curves, as well as the floral tattoos that graced her arms.
She approached, her hands clasped, and her violet eyes went wide as she took in the gorgeous beauty I wanted to claim. I suspected violet wasn’t her natural color, but the emergence as an Amethyst Coven witch would provide her with the purple magic.
A trait that ran similar to my own race, given that my eyes blazed red with my ruby power.
The female unicorn, though, her eyes shone with their natural blue. Perhaps she’d always held dormant sapphire magic, but something felt off about her.
Besides the obvious. There were no female Unicorn Shifters in existence.
And her non-unicorn mother shared her blue eyes, which suggested the female was hiding her true magical affinity.
Her father had to have been a Unicorn Shifter for this to make any sense, or some distant relative even, but this wasn’t how Unicorns were typically born. I should have felt her magic at her birth.
So why now? What had changed?
Questions that needed answers.
I didn’t even know her name, but that didn’t matter. She belonged with me. The rest would follow.
“Yes, a Unicorn,” I confirmed.
Everyone stared at me as if I was the one to have sprouted a horn.
While absolutely possible, I wasn’t going to break the rules just to prove a point.
The manic laughter coming from the female’s mother made me frown.
“You must be mistaken, sir. Is this some sort of joke? My daughter couldn’t be something so… ridiculous.”
The Amethyst Coven witch released a massive gasp in horror.
At least someone understood the gravity of the situation.
And the insult the Elemental had just spewed to one of the most powerful supernaturals in all the realms.
“Tricia! Unicorns are legends!” The Amethyst witch snapped her fingers and a book appeared. She opened it while it hovered in midair. She flipped through the pages, giving me a chance to see her tattoos close up. I spotted insects underneath some of the florals.
Hmm, a nature witch. No wonder the Elemental doesn’t like her.
The female’s mother glowered at the witch, although I wasn’t sure why. She was absolutely right on all accounts. “You will call meElemental L’Estellein my house, Becca.”
“Mom,” the female groaned. “Can you not be your usual dick self right now?” She jabbed a finger at her head. “I just sprouted a fuckinghorn.”
“Watch your tone with me, Bonny Magic L’Estelle,” Tricia hissed.
Bonny,I thought.Fitting, like a little bonbon.
Perhaps she tastes sweet like one, too…
I stiffened. The unexpected thought oftastingthe female named Bonny most certainly was unusual, but not entirely unwelcome.
