Everyone left the room except for the bi-colored male whose name I still hadn’t learned.

He eyes me curiously, his gaze resting on the place where I still touched Raze’s chest. “You’re using Purity magic on him,” he observed. His gaze returned to mine, holding me captive.

Fuck, he’s beautiful.

“How is that possible?” he asked.

I swallowed and found that my tongue had gone dry. “I… I don’t know.”

He considered me for a moment, a hint of desire I’d spotted before briefly appearing before he blinked it away. “Right, well. I’ll be back soon. I don’t care if you’re some kind of succubus, or if you’re something else. Just… don’t let him die. All right?”

“I won’t,” I said immediately.

Because I agreed with him.

It didn’t matter what I was, but what did matter was Raze’s life.

I just wasn’t sure why.

SEBASTIAN

Fuck.

That female was dangerous. I knew that the moment I’d laid eyes on her, but the growing strength of her mysterious power only drew me to her more.

Who was she?

Whatwas she?

Eli was clearly bent out of shape. He’d broken the rules to bring Raze back even though he’d been Corrupted. For his own protection, he’d placed himself in one of the adjacent rooms until Guille could find Samuel and bring back a crystal to begin the purge.

Even so, he’d still retreated to solitary without much fanfare.

Because hewantedto be alone?

I sensed based on his interest in the female that Raze wasn’t the only reason he’d risked his life.

My brother wasn’t known for his leniency, and if we hadn’t already lost so many Unicorns to the recent resurgence of Corruption he might have followed through on ending Eli’s life. He loved his rules.

What baffled me even more than my brother’s mercy was his lack of reaction to the female.

Nox hadn’t seemed surprised at all.

I knew Nox better than anyone, mostly because I’d spent the majority of my life trying to live up to the standard he’d set for my bloodline.

My mother was a Snow Leopard Shifter, one of the rarer shifter types in the realms, even though she’d raised us on Earth. She’d been part of the Rise and from a human lineage, so that made her new to the supernatural world. My father, of course, was a Unicorn Shifter, and he’d become a Stallion in order to treat my mother as his broodmare.

She was a good mother, but she’d kept her distance from Nox and me because she knew what was coming.

I’d been taken at nine years old, a few years after Nox had been ripped from our mother’s arms.

When they came for me, I’d been alone out in the garage fixing my bike. My mother hadn’t even come out of the house.

I should have realized what would happen on my birthday. I’d actually forgotten that it was my birthday because we didn’t celebrate it at home.

Thinking back, maybe it had been too hard on her to lose another son.

Or maybe she thought I wouldn’t survive because of what I was. Why celebrate a birthday if it meant I was one year closer to death?
