I gasped as the memory of the door opening hit me. “Angel!” I shouted as I covered my mouth with a hand. I’d been so wrapped up in the moment that I hadn’t even been able to stop Raze while she was watching.

She probably thought I’d lost my damn mind.

Maybe I have,I mused.

“Do you think she’s angry with me?” he asked.

“Probably,” I said, letting my hand drop to my side while I held the blanket up with the other. “She knows I wouldn’t just do that with anyone, especially when I’ve never—”

I immediately shut my mouth when I realized I’d said too much, but it was too late.

Raze smirked at me. “So you’re a virgin then?”

I chewed my lip as I debated how to reply. It wasn’t really any of his business, but that wasn’t really why I didn’t want him to know.

I was embarrassed.

He was so fucking gorgeous and clearly older than me.

Likely a lot older.

He’d probably been with millions of girls. What could I possibly be to him? Especially when all I’d done was take. The magic had been one-sided, for the most part. I’d only needed a kiss to take the Corruption out of him. But to burn it out of me, I’d needed not one buttwoorgasms.

From his tongue.

My entire body shivered at the delicious memory before I quickly locked it away.

It was too late. He walked over with a tray of savory food that made my mouth water. He must have used some of the surplus of his magic to create an appropriate meal rather than expecting me to sustain myself with treats.

“It’s okay,” he said, lifting one of the little sandwiches to my mouth. He persisted until I took a bite.

While I chewed, he added, “I’m a virgin, too.”

SAMUEL

“It’s this way,”I hissed as I peered around a corner wall.

I didn’t bother using telepathic communication with Guille. His powers were far too unstable for that right now. At only nineteen, he was easily overwhelmed by magic.

My eyes struggled to adjust to the darkness that pressed in all around us. But, at least I could still see.

The faint outline of the red stones that should have been burning hot with Sun House Purity magic could barely emit even a pitiful glow.

The ground, too, should have been molten embers. Instead, smoke sizzled up into a dark sky and disappeared into nothingness.

No stars.

No moon.

Just a dense fog that threatened to suffocate me.

Taking in a deep breath, I resisted the urge to turn back. Even though breathing was becoming more difficult, we couldn’t stop now.

I squinted and willed my magic to pour over my vision, giving me just enough light to make out the next row of stones.

It was a skill I’d mastered in the past year. I’d passed three full years of Sun House training that made facing Corruption somewhat manageable.

Unlike my Lieutenant, Guille, who pressed in at my back and blindly groped for me. He was the youngest member of the Legion in our history, but he hadn’t mastered even the simplest of skills that would give him an edge. His power was raw and untrained, so I needed to ensure he stayed behind me. “Where? I can’t see a damn thing,” he complained.
